Starting a Squarespace trial site

Information about trials and the limits that apply.

Last updated January 22, 2025

We offer a 14-day free website trial so you can try Squarespace and get to know our features before subscribing. We don't require credit card information to sign up for a trial. To get started, visit squarespace.com.

Note

If you're not ready to build a site, but you'd like to register a domain, start with a Squarespace domain and parking page.

Tip

In addition to our guides and video tutorials, we offer two Getting Started with Squarespace webinars. In these sessions, we’ll walk you through template building with Squarespace Blueprint AI, navigating your site, domain and email options, preparing site content, building a homepage, and styling colors and fonts. Webinars typically last one hour, and you don’t need a Squarespace site or account to sign up.

How trials work

You'll have access to nearly all features, and all custom code options, so you can learn how the Squarespace platform works and create a design you like.

Here are some things to note about trials:

  • You can create as many trials as you want. When you're ready to upgrade to paid service, you'll upgrade and pay for each site separately.
  • Your site is private during your trial, but you can allow certain visitors by adding a password.
  • If your trial expires, you won't have access to your site until you upgrade to paid service.
  • To cancel or remove a trial site from your account before it expires, follow the steps in Canceling a Squarespace website trial.

Trial limitations

While you can use most features during a trial, you'll want to keep these limitations in mind:

Trial commerce limitations

If you plan to sell products using Squarespace Commerce, some features aren't available on a trial:

Tip

Squarespace Circle members have access to six-month trials. To learn more, visit Squarespace Circle.

What happens when my trial ends?

You'll receive an email the day before your trial ends, giving you a chance to consider your next steps. You'll have a few options:

  • If you're ready to use the full version of your site, upgrade to paid service. You can upgrade at any time during your trial. If you used specific features on your trial site, ensure you choose a plan that offers those same features. If you choose a plan that doesn’t offer the features you used in the trial, they will no longer be available on your site. To enable the features in the future, you can upgrade your plan at any time. Visit our pricing page and Choosing the right Squarespace plan to review a list of features for each plan.
  • If you need more time, we can extend your trial by seven days.
  • You can also let your trial site expire. When your trial expires, the site won't be public, and all content is marked for permanent deletion. Depending on how much time passes after expiration, you might be able to upgrade to paid service and continue to edit the site as you last left it.

Start a trial

There are a few ways to start a new Squarespace trial site.

Option 1 - If you’re new to Squarespace

You can create a new Squarespace account from a computer or from the Squarespace app.

  1. Go to squarespace.com and click Get Started.
  2. Enter text about the goal for your site to see a selection of suggested designs, or click Skip to see the main selection.
  3. Click Start With... on the design you want.
  4. Enter your name, email address, and a password, then click Create Account.
  5. You’ll be logged into your new trial site.
  6. Verify your Squarespace account. We'll send an account verification request to the email address used to set up the account. The request will come from no-reply@squarespace.com and have a subject line of either "Verify your account" or "Verify your Squarespace account." If you don't verify your account, we may send another email later asking you to verify.
  1. Download the Squarespace app for Android or iOS.
  2. Open the app and click Get Started.
  3. Scroll to see all available designs, then click Start With... on the design you want.

When you create an account, you’ll pick your login information. You can either:

  • Use an email address and password to log in. We recommend using an email address you can easily access.
  • Use your Apple, Facebook, or Google account to save time and log in with one click. You’ll be prompted to log into that account and make the connection to Squarespace.

Note

If you try to sign up with a social account and see an error that says Email address required, ensure you have an email address on file for that social account.

You’ll always log in the same way you signed up. For example, if you sign up with a Google account, you’ll always log in using your Google account.

Option 2 - If you already have an account

You can add a new site to your account from a computer or from the Squarespace app.

  1. Go to account.squarespace.com. If prompted, log into your account.
  2. In the top-right corner of your account dashboard, click Create Website.
  3. Follow the prompts to choose a design and start a new site.
  4. You’ll be logged into your new trial site.
  1. Download the Squarespace app for Android or iOS.
  2. Open the app and click Log In to log into your account.
  3. Click the + in the top-right corner. (If you were already logged into the app, click Account first, then the site name under Site.)
  4. Scroll to see all available designs, then click Start With... on the design you want.
  5. You'll be logged into your new trial site.

Tip

If you've used Squarespace before, you can start a new trial from an existing site. This helps you keep multiple sites organized under one account. To learn more, visit Managing multiple sites.

Option 3 - If you already have a Squarespace domain parking page

If you have a parked domain, you can create a new trial site connected to the domain from your domain details page.
