Canceling a Squarespace website trial

Cancel your site trial and delete it from your account.

Last updated January 18, 2024

Squarespace trial sites expire automatically after 14 days, but you can cancel or delete your trial before it's over. You can also delete an expired trial from your account.

When you cancel a trial, visitors can no longer see it, but the site remains in your Squarespace account until our system removes it. This is a good option if you think you'll want to use the site later.

When you delete a trial, visitors can no longer see it, and the site is removed from your Squarespace account. This is a good option if you think you won't need the site later.

Tip

If you started more than one trial, see our tips for managing multiple sites.

Before you begin

This guide covers how to delete individual trial sites not yet upgraded to paid services.

Cancel your trial

To cancel your trial site, but keep it visible in your account:

  1. Go to your account dashboard and open the trial you want to cancel.
  2. Open the Billing panel.
  3. Under Trial subscriptions, click Website, then click Cancel trial.
  4. Select your reason for canceling from the drop-down menu, or click Skip.
  5. Click Cancel trial.
  6. You'll still be logged in, and a "Your trial has been canceled" message will appear at the bottom.
  7. A "Website Expired" message will appear for visitors to your URL.

Delete your trial

To permanently delete your trial site and remove it from your account:

  1. Go to your account dashboard.
  2. Click on the trial site, then select Delete.
  3. Click Delete again in the pop-up window that opens to confirm.
  4. A "Site Deleted" message will appear for visitors to your URL.

Tip

You can start a new trial at any time. This creates a completely new site.

What happens to content on deleted or canceled trials

After you cancel or delete your trial, your content is taken offline and is no longer accessible to website visitors. However, you may be able to reactivate it. To restore a trial site you deleted, contact us. If your content hasn’t been permanently deleted, we may be able to restore it for you, depending on how long it’s been.

When your trial site expires, your site content is no longer visible to visitors. Sites that were never a paid subscription are automatically marked for deletion after a period of inactivity. If you manually delete your trial site, this will expedite the deletion process. After deletion, it's not possible to recover your site content. To learn more, visit deleting your site and its content.
