Inviting a contributor

Add team members to your account who can help create and edit content on your site.

Last updated January 30, 2025

Every person with a Squarespace account who can log in and edit your content is a contributor. If you're not the only one who manages your site, domain, or other subscription, invite people to contribute and then control what they can see by assigning them permissions.

Note

If a new contributor can't accept the invitation, visit Accepting a contributor invitation for troubleshooting and tips.

Before you begin

  • Only owners and administrators can invite contributors.
  • On the Basic, Personal, and Cover Page plans (discontinued), you can add one contributor (for a total of two, including the owner). In other billing plans and on trial sites, you can add an unlimited number of contributors.
  • Multiple contributors making simultaneous content edits can cause changes to overwrite each other. We recommend coordinating with your contributors to avoid issues.
  • On parking pages, you can add contributors with admin permissions only.
  • If your company wants to purchase or manage sites in bulk with multiple site contributors, you can work with us to create a customized solution. To learn more, visit our Enterprise page.
  • Squarespace domains that don't share billing information with a website have different contributor settings than those in this guide. To learn more, visit Managing domain permissions.

Note

If your domain migrated from Google Domains to Squarespace and it doesn’t share billing information with a Squarespace website, you’ll follow different steps than those outlined in this guide to manage your domain permissions. Visit these guides for help with:

Invite a contributor

When you invite a contributor to your Squarespace site, domain, or Acuity account, you set what level of permissions they have. For available permissions details, visit Squarespace permissions explained.

To invite a contributor:

  1. Open the Permissions & Ownership panel and click Invite Contributor.
  2. In the Invite Contributor window, enter the contributor's name and email address.
  3. Switch the toggles to give the contributor permissions based on how they'll contribute. You can give them permissions of all other roles by switching the administrator toggle on, or pick and choose among multiple permissions.
  4. Click Invite to send your invitation.
  5. Your contributor will receive an email invitation asking them to log into their existing Squarespace account or create a new one.

Invited contributors are listed under Invites Sent.

Manually send an invitation link

If the invited contributor isn't receiving your invitation email, have them check their spam folder or search no-reply@squarespace.com. If they still aren't receiving the email, you can click their contributor profile under Invites Sent and copy the Invitation Link.

  1. Tap More, tap Settings, then tap Permissions.
  2. Scroll down then tap Invite Contributor.
  3. Enter the contributor’s name and email address.
  4. Switch the toggle on for each permission you want to assign the contributor based on how much access they should have. You can enable multiple permissions.
  5. Tap Send to send the invitation.
  6. Your contributor will receive an email invitation asking them to log into their existing Squarespace account or create a new one.

Invited contributors are listed under Invites Sent.
