You can use Squarespace to create and manage podcasts. What is podcasting?

Podcasts are digital audio files made available on the internet, using RSS feeds, so listeners can download or stream episodes on their computer or mobile device. You can listen to podcasts using Apple Podcasts or other podcast services. Since podcast files are available through RSS, listeners can automatically download new episodes to their computer or mobile device without having to visit a website and check for new content.

An increasingly popular format, podcasts cover a wide range of topics. Although some podcasts are released as videos, podcasting is primarily an audio broadcasting format. Squarespace only supports audio podcasts.

Podcasting with Squarespace

To podcast with Squarespace, follow these steps:

  1. Set up a podcast blog page.
  2. Add a blog post with your episode using an audio block.
  3. Submit your RSS feed for syndication.
  4. Continue posting new episodes.

Podcast limitations

  • If your site is in trial, a podcast can't be submitted to or followed via Apple Podcasts. To proceed, upgrade to paid service.
  • Squarespace doesn't support video podcasts.
  • Squarespace podcast feeds display up to 300 of the most recent posts/episodes.
  • Audio blocks have an upload limit of 160 MB.
  • If you're hosting a podcast externally, it's not possible for your Squarespace site to update automatically when you release a new episode. Add any updates manually.

Sharing your feed

After you’ve set up a blog page for podcasting, submit your podcast’s RSS feed to Apple Podcasts so listeners can discover, follow, and automatically download your show's new episodes. Apple Podcasts is the most popular service, and Squarespace automatically formats feeds using the podcasting standards set by Apple Podcasts.

You can also submit your feed to other podcast services, like Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher. Since there’s no standard format for podcast RSS feeds, how your podcast and its information appears may vary across different services.

You can help visitors find your RSS feed with the RSS block.

When you can't share your feed

A podcast can't be submitted to Apple Podcasts if:

  • The site is private.
  • The site has a site-wide password.
  • The podcast's blog page has a page password.
  • The podcast's blog page is in a member site.
  • The podcast's blog page has a paywall.

To share your feed, make the site public, remove your site-wide or page password, move the blog page out of the member site, or remove the blog page's paywall.

Track your audience with analytics

Use your RSS subscribers analytics to measure traffic from Apple Podcasts.

If you’re using a third-party service to monitor podcast analytics, add a URL prefix to each audio block to track downloads, listens, and other data for an episode.

Designing a podcast site

You can use Squarespace to create a branded home for your podcast by adding an About page, host bios, detailed show notes for each episode, and more. To highlight recent episodes, you can use a summary block.

Your site can also help build community by linking to your social media profiles and encouraging fans to provide feedback through comments. You can view metrics for your podcast using RSS subscribers analytics.

All Squarespace templates support blog pages and podcasting.
