Gallery Pages

Use Gallery Pages to display images and videos in eye-catching layouts and styles. Gallery Pages have specific designs intended to match your template. In this guide, you'll learn how to add a new Gallery Page and add images and videos to it.

The steps in this guide also apply to Project Pages.

This guide is for version 7.0. In version 7.1, add gallery sections instead.

Before you begin

  • Your Gallery Page's layout and style options depend on your template. Gallery Pages can be slideshows, grids, stacked, or carousels. For gallery designs by template, visit Styling a Gallery Page.
  • To add a gallery outside of the Gallery Page, like on a Layout Page or blog post, try the Gallery Block. You may also want to explore the differences between the two gallery types.

Upload images

  • Before uploading, review our image formatting guidelines.
  • For the best results, upload images 500 KB or smaller. There's a technical 20 MB size limit for each image.
  • You can add up to 250 images or videos to each Gallery Page. Large galleries may take longer to load.
  • You can upload multiple images at a time, but you can't upload .zip files or other compressed file formats.
  • The first image added to a Gallery Page automatically becomes the page's thumbnail image. You can also manually add a thumbnail. For help, visit Adding thumbnail images.

There are three ways to add your own images to a Gallery Page on a computer:

  • Click the + icon, then click Image.
  • Click the empty box to open your computer's file manager, then click Open or Choose to add the image to the gallery.
  • Drag and drop images into the empty box in the Gallery Page panel.

You can also reuse an image you've previously uploaded by clicking the + icon, then clicking Search Images.

Add stock images

With our stock image integrations, you can search and add for stock images directly from your site. This is a great option if you don't already have an image to use.

To use a stock image, click the + icon, and then click Search Images. You can also use the Image Search page to reuse a stock image you added previously.

Add videos

All templates' Gallery Pages (except Frontrow) support externally hosted videos. You can add a video to a gallery with its direct URL or an HTML embed code.

To add a video, click the + icon in the Gallery panel, then click Add Video.

Tip: The example in this guide uses a YouTube video. We also support Vimeo, Animoto, and Wistia. Those hosts' embedding options may differ from what you see here. Check with your video host for help finding the video’s URL or the embed code.

Option 1 - Use a URL

Copy the video’s URL from the browser address bar, and paste it into the Edit Video menu.

Option 2 - Use HTML embed code

Add a video’s HTML embed code to the video editor. Most video hosting services offer a Share or Embed button. Click Share or Embed, and then copy the code provided.

Click the code icon in the video editor to add the embed code.

Add image overlays (optional)

You can add an optional thumbnail images for videos. The image displays over the video before it’s played. It could be a title card, a frame from the video, or any other image that encourages visitors to click play.

Note: Adding an image overlay to any video disables gallery autoplay. Visitors will need to click to see the next item.

To add an image overlay, drag your image into the uploader, then check Use Thumbnail.

To remove the thumbnail image, click the trash can icon below the thumbnail.

Add titles and descriptions

Titles and descriptions add context to your content. Titles become alt text, which helps search engines understand what your images are, potentially improving SEO. Description style and display options depend on your template.

To add or edit titles and descriptions:

  1. Hover over an image or video in the Gallery Page panel.
  2. Click the gear icon to open the editor.
  3. Add a title and description. Image titles must be 200 characters or fewer.

To add or edit titles and descriptions:

  1. Double-tap an uploaded image to open the image settings.
  2. Tap into the text field under Image Title to add or edit the title. Image titles must be 200 characters or fewer.
  3. Tap into the text field under Image Description to add or edit the description.
  4. Tap Save.

Replace an image

To replace an image in a gallery while keeping its information, such as title and tags:

  1. Double-click the image to open its editor.
  2. Click Remove under the image.
  3. Click the arrow icon that appears to replace it with a new image.

Set the item's publication status

All image and video settings include four visibility options:

  • Published
  • Scheduled
  • Needs Review
  • Draft

Scheduled, Needs Review, and Draft can be helpful if you want to upload content to your site, but don’t want to make it publicly visible. You can keep an item unpublished for other site contributors to review before it’s public or when you’re testing your page’s style.

To change any item’s status:

  1. Hover over the image or video thumbnail in the Gallery Page panel.
  2. Click the gear icon.
  3. Click the current status, and select a new one.

If you’re leaving the image or video unpublished (Scheduled, Needs Review, or Draft), you’ll see a status banner over the image or video thumbnail in the page panel. After it’s Published, you’ll see the thumbnail without a banner and the content appears live on your Gallery Page.

When you first add an image/video on a desktop, there are two ways to save it. Choose from these options:

  6. Tap the arrow in the top-left corner to return to the image settings.
