Add a new page

To add a page to your site's navigation menu, you'll add the page to the main navigation in the pages panel. For an overview of the pages panel and its sections, visit The pages panel.

How you add pages depends on which version of Squarespace your site is on, and whether you're editing on a computer or in the Squarespace app.

  1. Open the Pages panel.
  2. Click the + icon next to the main navigation. To add it to a dropdown, click Add page under the dropdown.
Click the plus icon or Add Page to open the page menu.

Layout pages

Layout pages are where you add combinations of blocks to create custom layouts of text, images, audio, forms, and more. Layout pages vary depending on which version of Squarespace your site is on.

In version 7.1, a layout page is any page you create other than blog, events, portfolio, or store pages. When you add a layout page, you can click Blank to design the page from scratch, or click Page layouts to choose from different pre-built layouts with placeholder blocks for specific purposes.

In the pages panel, the layout page icon looks like this:

When you add a layout page, you can choose between a blank page, where you create the layout from scratch, or a pre-built layout designed for certain uses, like contact pages and about pages. These layouts have placeholder blocks to help you get started and are completely customizable.

Collection pages

Collection pages are home to sets of content items, like products, blog posts, or events. Collection pages include:

Version 7.0 sites also support album pages and gallery pages.

Except for album pages, collection pages have a two-level structure. Visitors can view a collection page, like a blog page, then click individual collection items, like a blog post, to view an item-specific page.

Other options

You can add other features to your navigation that help organize pages or link to external content:

  • Dropdowns group multiple pages into a drop-down menu in your navigation.
  • Links create navigation links to external content or your own content, sorted by tags or categories.
  • Member Sites build a set of pages that visitors sign up to access.
  • Remove the navigation from pages by hiding the header.
  • Hide the footer from specific pages.
  • Dropdowns group multiple pages into a drop-down menu in your navigation.
  • Links create navigation links to external content or your own content, sorted by tags or categories.

Depending on your template, you may be able to add other page types:

  • Cover pages act as a bold splash page or distinctive single page on any template, incorporating full-bleed images and other special features. Cover pages have a more fixed design than other pages, helping you concentrate on a simpler message.
  • Index pages present multiple pages of content in a single location. Pages in the index appear as a grid of images, single continuous pages, or other unique designs. Designs vary between templates, and not all templates support index pages.
  • Info pages are special pages, only available in the Aviator family. They function similarly to a cover page.

Demo pages

Every template includes demo pages that highlight features and design possibilities. These example pages have a Demo label to the right of the page title. To learn more about using or removing these pages, visit Working with demo content.

Supported pages in the Squarespace app

In the Squarespace app, different options for adding and editing pages appear depending on which version of Squarespace you're using, and if you're on an iOS or Android device. Use this table to review which page types you can add or edit in the app.
