Can I register a domain with Squarespace?
Yes. If your site is on a trial or a paid plan, you can purchase domains through Squarespace. If you're on an annual billing cycle, you may be eligible to register one domain for free.
Can I transfer a domain to Squarespace?
How long will it take to transfer a domain to Squarespace?
Transferring a domain to Squarespace can take anywhere from one to 15 days. The speed depends on the domain provider you're starting with, but sometimes you can speed up the process.

How much does it cost?
All Squarespace sites within the first year of their an annual billing cycle include one free custom domain. This domain is free for its first year. Only select TLDs are eligible. Additional domains vary in price based on the TLD. For example, common TLDs like .com and .org are $20 per year, and other TLDs like .photography .media are $30 and $50 per year. To find a domain's price, you can search for it on the domain name search page or your Domains panel.
How do I get a free domain?
All Squarespace sites on an annual billing cycle include one custom domain, free for its first year. To get started, visit Free Squarespace domain offer.
Can I get more domains after getting my free domain?
Yes. If you already claimed your one free domain, you can register more domains. Additional domains vary in price based on TLD. To find a domain's price, you can search for it on the domain name search page or your Domains panel.

What TLDs are available?
A TLD is the last part of a domain name after the ".", like .com or .pizza. You can choose from 200+ TLDs, including the most common options:
Can I buy a domain with a TLD specific to my country?
The list below shows which country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) are available for purchase through Squarespace and where you can find the specific requirements and features for each ccTLD.
- Australia: .au and .com.au domains
- Canada: .ca domains
- Cocos (Keeling) Islands: .cc domains
- European Union: .eu domains
- France: .fr domains
- Germany: .de domains
- India: .co.in domains
- Italy: .it domains
- Japan: .jp domains

If you're interested in a ccTLD that isn't included in the list, you can register one with a third-party provider and connect it to your Squarespace site instead.
How many domains can I buy?
You can register one free domain if you're on an annual billing cycle. You can register as many other domains as you want. Prices vary by TLD.
For example, if you're a business, you may want to buy multiple variations of your domain, like yourdomain.com, yourdomain.net, or yourdomain.biz.
How do I get email for my domain?
You can get a custom email address to use with one Squarespace domain through our partnership with Google Workspace by Google.
Will I have domain or Whois privacy?
Yes. Domain privacy is included for free with all domains registered through Squarespace. To learn more, visit Whois privacy.
The domain I want isn't available
If the domain isn't available, there are a few reasons why this might happen. The domain you entered could already be taken, it could be a premium domain, or it might contain too many characters. Why should I register multiple domains?
Registering multiple domains provides visitors with more ways to find you, captures common misspellings, and keeps competitors from registering similar domain names. With some TLDs priced at just $20 per year, additional domain names can improve your online presence at a low cost.
I received an email asking me to set data sharing settings for my domain
After registering a new domain, you'll receive an email from firstname.lastname@example.org asking you to set your data sharing preferences. One of our domain registrars, Tucows, requires that we send this email to comply with data regulations like GDPR. To view and edit that info, click the link in the email, or you can ignore it. Sharing your data is optional and your domain will work normally even if you don't take any action.
Do I have a Squarespace-managed domain?
You have a Squarespace-managed domain if one of the following is true about your domain:
- The domain is registered through Squarespace
- The domain is transferred into Squarespace as a third-party domain
- The domain is connected to Squarespace using Nameserver Connect
Can I start again or rename a domain?
Your domain name is important to your online presence, so you have a five-day grace period where you can change it before it becomes permanent.
After this five-day grace period, the domain can't be changed. To learn more, visit Changing a Squarespace domain name.
Can I remove the "www" from my domain?
Yes. You can remove the "www" from your domain.
You can only remove the "www" from a Squarespace domain you already registered, and it must be set as your primary domain.
Unless you're absolutely sure that you want to only display your naked domain, this isn't always necessary. Without changing any settings, visitors can find your site with or without typing "www" before it. If they type "yourdomain.com," they'll be taken to your domain, and the "www.yourdomain.com" will appear. This is a fairly standard practice across the internet.
How long can I keep my domain?
After you register a domain, you own it and can keep it as long as you'd like. As long as you maintain your service with Squarespace, the domain will point to your Squarespace site for the exact length of your plan with us.
Will Squarespace help me purchase a registered domain from someone else?
If the domain's registrar is Squarespace Domains LLC, we can help you contact the domain owner. To send a message to the domain's owner and inquire about purchasing it, fill out this domain contact form.
If the domain's registrar is Tucows, we're unable to help you contact the domain owner to inquire about purchasing.
Why doesn't my site load when I go to my Squarespace domain?
If your Squarespace domain isn’t directing to your site, review the following:
- If you recently registered your domain, ensure that you’ve verified ownership. If you don't verify your domain within 15 days, it will be temporarily suspended and might not direct to your site.
- Ensure that your domain is active and not expired.
- If you’ve changed any DNS settings, restore the original settings with the Website Defaults preset. Wait up to 72 hours for your settings to readjust.

Which site is my domain attached to?
If you have multiple sites and domains under the same account, it can be difficult to keep track of the site where a domain is linked. For an overview of all your domains and their sites, visit your account dashboard and review the Domains tab.
Can I move my domain between Squarespace sites?
Yes. If you registered a domain through Squarespace and want to use it with a different Squarespace site, you can move it from your Domains panel. For the step-by-step process and best practices, visit Moving a domain between sites.
Can I connect my Squarespace domain to another provider?
Yes, this is possible. However, if you're moving your site to a different provider, we recommend transferring your domain to them instead.
Can I transfer my Squarespace domain to another provider?
Yes. You can transfer your Squarespace domain by first unlocking it from within your site. To learn more, visit Transferring a Squarespace domain.
If you want to close your Squarespace site entirely, you'll need to cancel service separately.
Is renewal automatic?
By default, all Squarespace domains are set to auto-renew, and you can see the renewal date for the domain in the Domains panel. You'll receive an email 15 days before the renewal date letting you know you'll soon be charged for your domain subscription.
If you don't want your domain to renew automatically, you can disable auto-renew in the Domains panel. If you disable auto-renew and let your domain expire, someone else can register it and use it for their site. Even if you're not using your domain or site now, you may want to hold onto your domain for later.
What happens if my renewal fails?
If we can't charge the credit card on file for your site, your domain will remain active and past-due for 15 days. We'll make additional attempts to charge your card every five days after the initial failed charge. After the third attempt, 15 days after the payment was due, the domain will no longer resolve to your site. We highly recommend that you keep an active, valid credit card on file to ensure uninterrupted service.
After 15 days, you'll have a 30-day grace period in which you can reactivate your domain from your Domains panel. After 30 days (45 days total after the renewal date), the domain will be released back to the registrar.
What happens to my free domain if I downgrade to monthly billing?
If you switch from annual to monthly billing, your domain will expire at what would be the end of your annual billing cycle. You'll receive an email notification 30 days before the expiration date.
If I upgrade from a monthly to annual billing cycle, can I get a refund for a domain I bought?
We can’t convert a domain you already bought to a free domain. However, you can take advantage of this benefit by registering another domain for free. For example, you may want to register a .net version of your domain.
What happens to my domain if I delete my Squarespace site?
If you delete your Squarespace site, you'll have the option to either let your domain expire or renew it for an annual fee. If you renew, you'll continue to manage the domain through Squarespace.
If you're moving your site to a different provider, we'd be sad to see you go, but you may want to transfer your domain to the new provider so it works with your new site.

Can I get a refund for a domain?
You can cancel your domain immediately and receive a refund within five days of registration. We don't offer refunds after this five-day grace period.
Your primary domain can't be removed. If the domain you want to remove is your primary domain, first set a different primary domain.
To cancel your domain immediately and receive a refund:
- Open the Domains panel.
- Under Squarespace domains, click the domain to remove.
- Click Cancel domain, and then click Confirm. This can't be undone.

Do I have to pay to renew my one free domain?
All free domains registered as of March 5, 2015 will be free for the first year of service. After one year of service, the domain will renew for $20. We'll charge the credit card connected to your site.
If you registered a free domain prior to March 5, 2015, your domain will continue to renew for free every year that your site remains active.
What happens if my site expires?
If your site expires while your Squarespace domain is still active, you can continue managing your domain from the expired site. Alternatively, you can reactivate the site or move your domain to another site on your account.
If you're canceling your site, review your domain options before canceling service.
