Removing the "www" from your domain

A domain without the "www" is called a naked domain.

Last updated November 15, 2024

You can remove "www" from your domain in the Domains panel

By default, all Squarespace domains come with the "www" domain and naked domain automatically linked. If visitors type "yourdomain.com" into the address bar, the URL automatically updates to "www.yourdomain.com" when they land on your site. If you don't want "www" to appear at all, this guide shows how to remove it.

Note

You can only remove "www" on your primary domain.

Tip

Google Chrome automatically hides “www” from your domain.

Change a Squarespace-managed domain

To remove "www" from a domain you registered or transferred to Squarespace:

  1. Open the Domains panel.
  2. Switch the Use "www" prefix toggle off.

Change a third-party domain

To remove "www" from a third-party domain (one purchased from another company like GoDaddy or Namecheap):

  1. Open the Domains panel.
  2. Switch the Use “www" prefix toggle off.

Wait for the change

Changes made to a Squarespace domain or a third-party domain's "www" setting can take between 24 and 72 hours to process. When the process completes, your naked domain will appear in the address bar whenever someone visits your site.
