Managing domains registered through Google Workspace

Identifying, managing, and getting help for the Squarespace domain you registered through Google Workspace.

Last updated January 17, 2025

Squarespace partners with Google Workspace to provide domains to new Google Workspace users. If you don't already have a domain you'd like to use when setting up a new Google Workspace account through Google, you can register a new domain through Squarespace during the setup flow. Doing so means you'll have a resold domain managed by both Google Workspace and Squarespace.

Domain resellers act as intermediaries between the registrar (in this case, Squarespace), and the customer. If you have a resold domain, you'll need to take some domain management actions through the account you have with Google Workspace instead of with Squarespace.

Note

Purchasing a domain and Google Workspace account through Google creates a new Squarespace account associated with your new Google Workspace credentials. If you already have a Squarespace account, you may wish to sign up for Google Workspace through Squarespace directly so you don't end up with multiple Squarespace accounts.

Identify your resold domain

To find out if you registered your domain through a reseller:

  1. Open your domains dashboard.
  2. Click the domain in question to open the domain details page.
  3. If you purchased your domain from a reseller, the reseller's name appears under the domain's expiration date.

Note

If another reseller besides Google Workspace appears in your domain details page, visit Managing Squarespace domains registered through a third party reseller.

Logging into Squarespace for the first time

After submitting payment for your new domain and Google Workspace account, you can log into Squarespace to start managing your domain:

  1. If you already have an existing Squarespace account, open a new tab in your browser and log out of your existing Squarespace account. This ensures you'll log into the correct account when taking the next steps. If you don't have an existing Squarespace account, skip to step two.
  2. Go to squarespace.com/login.
  3. Click Continue with Google.
  4. Select your new Google Workspace account and follow the prompts to continue logging in.
  5. You'll be sent to your domains dashboard, where you can start managing your domain.

After the initial login process, you can log into Squarespace using your new Google Workspace account as a social login method.

Verify your domain

After you successfully register your domain, we'll send you an email with the subject subject "[Action required] Verify your Squarespace domain contact" requesting that you confirm your domain's contact information. This email is sent to the contact email address you entered upon registration.

If you don't verify your domain registration within 15 days of registration, your domain will be suspended

Connect your resold domain to a Squarespace site

To link your resold domain to a Squarespace site, you can connect the domain. When connecting your domain, keep in mind that the billing settings of your domain will remain separate from your website.

It's not possible to move a resold domain to a Squarespace site. A moved domain shares billing settings with the Squarespace website it's moved to. Because the billing settings for resold domains are managed through your Google Workspace Admin console, it's not possible for them to share billing settings with a Squarespace site.

FAQ

Can I transfer my domain to Squarespace?

No. It's not possible to transfer the domain you registered through Google Workspace to Squarespace. This means you will continue to manage your domain's billing details through Google Workspace. However, if your domain was registered fewer than five days ago, you may be able to cancel the domain through Google Workspace, then register the domain through Squarespace. Keep in mind, if you cancel your domain, someone else may be able to register it. For help canceling your domain, contact Google Workspace support

What happens to my domain if I cancel my Google Workspace account?

Canceling your Google Workspace account through Google doesn't automatically cancel your domain. If you no longer need your domain, you'll need to cancel the domain separately. If you decide to keep the domain, you'll continue to manage the billing of your domain with Google Workspace and the remaining domain settings with Squarespace.
