Layout pages

Customize a blank page or use a pre-built layout to add content to your site.

Last updated January 23, 2025

Layout pages are flexible, basic pages you can use to create custom layouts of text, images, forms, and other common page features with drag-and-drop blocks. Layout pages are a great choice for contact pages, about pages, and—for many sites—the majority of your content.

When you add new layout pages, you can choose between blank pages and pages with pre-built layouts designed for specific uses.

How you add the page depends on which version of Squarespace your site is on.

Update a page layout's placeholder blocks

Think of layouts as your starting point and blocks as tools to further customize your page. If you’re hesitant to change a layout, you can duplicate the page, make it private, then use that as a test page.

To replace the placeholder blocks with your own content:

  • On the computer, double-click any placeholder image, text, or other content to edit it.
  • On the Squarespace app, tap Edit or the pencil icon, then tap any block to edit it. Keep in mind, it's not possible to edit all types of blocks on the app.
  • Alternatively, you can delete the placeholder blocks and add new blocks.

To see any block's type, hover over or tap the block after clicking Edit on the page. To learn more about using blocks with Squarespace, we recommend reviewing these guides:
