How to use SEPA to pay for your Squarespace subscriptions.

You can purchase ‌subscriptions on Squarespace using direct bank transfers through the Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA). SEPA direct debit is a popular form of payment in Europe and an alternative to using credit or debit cards.

Use this guide to better understand how to setup SEPA and use it as a payment method for your Squarespace subscriptions.

Can I use SEPA as a payment method?

To purchase a Squarespace subscription using SEPA direct debit, you need to:

  • Reside in, and use a bank located in one of the countries in the SEPA zone:
    Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
  • Choose € EUR (Euro) as your currency during checkout when purchasing subscriptions. 
  • Provide your International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and your account holder's full name.
  • Ensure your bank account is enabled to use SEPA direct debit. If you’re not sure, contact your bank.
  • Purchase one of the following types of subscriptions:

Accessing this feature

It’s not possible to use SEPA for domain transfers, reactivating Squarespace domains, purchasing Getty Images, or shipping labels. If you’re using Squarespace Commerce to sell, it’s not possible to accept SEPA direct debit payments. For a list of payment processors you can use, visit Connecting a payment processor to Commerce.

Purchase subscriptions using SEPA

Note

SEPA payments can take from two to 19 days to settle.

To purchase subscriptions using SEPA direct debit:

  1. In the Payment information panel of the checkout process, choose SEPA direct debit.
  2. In the SEPA direct debit fields, enter your first and last name and IBAN.
  3. Enter your billing address and VAT information, if applicable.
  4. Click Save and Continue, then confirm you’d like to use SEPA as your payment method.
  5. Click Confirm and Purchase. We may collect Value-Added Tax (VAT) along with your subscription payments.

Free subscription offer limitations

Squarespace has multiple free offers for certain subscriptions. To learn more about how to redeem these offers when using SEPA as a payment method, visit SEPA and activating Squarespace’s free offers.

Troubleshooting your SEPA payment

If your SEPA payments aren't successful, visit Troubleshooting SEPA payment failures to determine the cause.

Update your SEPA payment details

To update your SEPA payment details:

  1. If you’re updating your SEPA details for a website subscription, open the Payment information panel. If you’re updating your SEPA details for a domain that’s not associated with a site, click the domain in your Domains dashboard, then click Billing.
  2. Click the current SEPA details and enter the new information.
  3. Click Save.

Changing your SEPA-purchased website plan or billing cycle

To change your website plan, billing cycle, or both, visit Changing your website billing plan. Keep in mind that it’s not possible to change your billing plan during the following times:

  • While payment for the plan is being processed. Most SEPA payments settle in five days, but can take longer
  • In the 15 days leading up to the plan’s renewal date
