Refund policies

Determine if your payment to Squarespace is refundable.

Last updated December 18, 2024

You can cancel your Squarespace subscription at any time. We only issue refunds for some services. Before you cancel, review our refund policies in this guide.

Before you begin

  • All Squarespace subscriptions are independent from each other and are set to auto-renew. Canceling one subscription doesn’t automatically cancel or refund your other subscriptions. For example, if you cancel a website subscription, any domain subscriptions you have remain active. You need to cancel the domain subscription separately.
  • If SEPA direct debit is your payment method, visit SEPA refund policies to review SEPA-specific refund policies.

Website refund policy

Standard plans

We automatically issue a full refund for annual website subscriptions canceled within 14 days of purchase.

We don’t offer refunds for:

  • Annual plans canceled after 14 days following the first payment
  • Monthly plans
  • Renewal payments - Fifteen days before an annual subscription renews, we'll send you a renewal reminder email. If you don’t want your site to renew automatically, you can disable auto-renew.
  • Lost free domain offers - If you cancel your annual billing plan in the first 14 days, you forfeit your eligibility for the free domain offer. You'll receive a refund, minus the cost of the nonrefundable domain registration fee.

Tip

You can find your previous payment dates on your invoices.

Mobile Start plans

If you signed up for a Mobile Start plan through the Squarespace app, you can ask for a refund from Apple.

Domain refund policy

We automatically issue a full refund for Squarespace domains canceled within five days of registration.

If your domain was registered more than five days ago, or if your domain has fully transferred to Squarespace, you can’t cancel the domain, thus we can’t offer a refund. To learn more, visit Canceling a Squarespace domain. You also can’t cancel a domain registration extension, and we can't offer refunds for extensions.

Fifteen days before we charge you for the domain renewal, we’ll send you a renewal reminder email. To avoid a charge, and cause your domain to expire, you can disable auto-renew prior to the renewal charge.

Some domains have exceptions:

  • Country code top level domains (ccTLDs) - There's no five-day grace period or refund for most ccTLDs, such as .com.au or .eu. To learn more about specific ccTLDs, visit List of top-level domains (TLDs).
  • Domains transferred into Squarespace - There's no five-day grace period when you transfer a domain to Squarespace. However, you can cancel the transfer and receive a refund before it’s complete. Once the transfer is complete, auto-renew is enabled, and a refund isn't possible.

Note

If you purchased your Squarespace domain through a reseller, like Google Workspace or another reseller of Squarespace domains, contact your reseller for help with refunds. If you're not sure if you have a resold domain, open your domains dashboard and click your domain to open its details page. If you have a resold domain, the reseller's name appears beneath the domain's expiration date.

Free Squarespace-managed domains

All free domains registered as of March 5, 2015, are free for the first year of service. After one year of service, the domain renews for $20. We'll charge the payment method connected to your site.

If you purchase a domain first, then change your website subscription from a monthly to annual billing cycle, we won’t refund the domain. However, you can register another domain for free.

Domains registered prior to March 5, 2015, are free every year that your site remains active and on an annual billing plan.

Email Campaigns refund policy

All Email Campaigns subscriptions are non-refundable, regardless of plan level or billing cycle.

Before subscribing to Email Campaigns, we highly recommend starting a trial. During your trial period, you can send up to three blast campaigns, and up to 50,000 individual emails per campaign.

Google Workspace refund policy

To ensure continuous service, for annual plans, we charge Google Workspace renewal payments 15 days before your renewal date unless you disable auto-renew.

The time between your renewal date and when we charge your renewal payment is called the renewal window. If you delete a user from, or cancel an annual Google Workspace plan during this 15-day renewal window, we’ll automatically issue a refund.

What happens if you delete a user, or cancel your annual plan outside that 15-day renewal window, depends on your billing cycle:

Transaction fees

If you’re a merchant refunding charges through Squarespace Commerce, refunds of transaction or processing fees vary between payment processors. Squarespace Payments, Stripe and PayPal provide full refunds of Squarespace Commerce transaction fees, but not necessarily their own processing fees.

Visit Transaction fees and payment processing fees to learn more.

Request a refund

If you believe you’re eligible for a refund but haven’t received one, contact us by completing a refund request form. We review every refund request, and aim to respond in two business days.

If you haven't received the refund you're expecting, but it's been fewer than 10 business days, the refund may still be in process. Refunds can take 3 to 10 business days to appear on your card statement.
