Customers can pay in-person by tapping their device or credit card.

You can use Tap to Pay on Android with Squarespace point of sale (POS) to accept all types of in-person contactless payments directly on your device with no extra readers or hardware needed. From your Squarespace app, enter the amount to charge, and have your customer tap their device or card to complete the purchase.

Tap to Pay on Android is only available if you’re connected to a payment processor that supports Tap to Pay, such as Squarespace Payments, Stripe, or Square.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Tap to Pay on Android, you need to:

• Have an online store based in the United States.
• Ensure your store's currency matches the local currency of your store's locations.
• Connect to a payment processor that supports Tap to Pay, such as Square, Stripe, or Squarespace Payments.
• Have the Squarespace App installed on your Android device with the Squarespace (POS) set up.
• Ensure your Android device is on the Android 11 or higher version.
• Turn on your Android device’s NFC (Near Field Communication) setting.
• Have an internet connection.
• Have location services turned on for your Android device.
• Meet all of the device requirements for Squarespace POS.

Accepted payment methods

When a customer uses a payment method that requires contact, like a swipe or chip-insert, you need to have a separate card reader paired with your Android. You can accept the following payment methods on Tap to Pay on Android:

• Amex
• MasterCard
• Visa

With Tap to Pay on Android, you can also accept payments made from Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.

Enable Tap to Pay on Android

From the Squarespace POS on your Squarespace app:

1. Open the Squarespace app.
2. If prompted, log in or select your site.
3. On the point of sale screen, tap ⚙️ to open Settings.
4. Tap Payment options, and switch the Tap to Pay on Android toggle on.
5. Tap Done.

Pair Tap to Pay on Android to more devices

To activate Tap to Pay on Android on additional devices, from the Squarespace POS on your Squarespace app:

1. Open the Squarespace app.
2. If prompted, log in or select your site.
3. On the point of sale screen, tap ⚙️ to open Settings.
4. Tap Hardware.
5. Select Tap to Pay on Android, and then tap Next.
6. Tap Done.

Accept payments with Tap to Pay on Android

To accept a Tap to Pay on Android payment from the Squarespace POS:

1. Open the Squarespace app.
2. If prompted, log in or select your site.
3. Tap +, then tap Start new transaction.
4. Tap the Bag screen, and then tap Checkout.
5. Tap Tap to Pay on Android next to Payment Method.
6. Hold the card or NFC device to the back of your Android device. When the payment is successful, a beep will sound. 
7. Optional: Send the customer an email receipt.
8. Tap Done to return to the Squarespace POS.

If a customer uses a payment method that requires contact, like a swipe or chip-insert card, you need to have a separate card reader paired with your Android. 

Remove Tap to Pay on Android

To disable Tap to Pay on Android from the Squarespace POS:

1. In point of sale, tap the settings icon in the top-right corner.
2. Tap Exit point of sale.
3. On the point of sale screen, tap 🛜, and then tap Add.
4. Tap Tap to Pay on Android.
5. Tap Forget device.
