Connect a bank account

To receive payouts, connect a checking account to your Squarespace Payments account.

Accessing this feature

The connection and management of Squarespace Payments requires you to have Site Owner or Administrator permissions.

Before you begin

  • If you didn't use Stripe before creating a Squarespace Payments account, you can connect a bank account after your first sale. You're subject to a 14-consecutive-day holding period before you receive your first payout on the 15th day. The holding period begins after a payout checking account is successfully connected. Payouts are initiated Sunday-Thursday only.
  • If you did use Stripe on your Squarespace website prior to Payments, you can connect a checking account at any time and the payout holding period doesn't apply.

Connect a bank account

To connect a checking account to your Squarespace Payments account:

  1. Open the Payments panel.
  2. Next to Connect a bank account to receive payouts, click Connect Bank.
  3. Click Continue and follow the prompts.

To learn more, visit Connecting a bank account to Squarespace Payments.

Authenticate your bank account

Squarespace Payments uses Plaid to authenticate and verify your checking account. Depending on the type of authentication and verification methods your bank supports, there are several different ways this can happen:

  • Select your bank and authenticate using your bank login information.
  • Select your bank and authenticate using your bank login information, account number, and routing number. This method may require you to verify your account using micro-deposits.
  • Link with your account and routing number using micro-deposits.

To learn more, visit Connecting a bank account for Squarespace Payments.

Troubleshooting

  • If you use two-factor authentication with your bank, and run into issues with the authentication process, contact your bank.
  • If you encounter the Plaid error message, "Couldn’t connect to your institution", wait a few hours and then try to connect again. If you continue to have issues, please contact Customer Support.

Afterpay and Clearpay are alternative payment methods available through Squarespace Payments that give your customers the option to pay for products in installments, with zero percent interest. In the United Kingdom, Afterpay is called Clearpay.

Afterpay and Clearpay act as lenders. When a customer pays, you receive the full amount upfront, and your customer is charged by Afterpay or Clearpay in four installments over the next eight weeks. To learn more about eligibility, fees, and requirements, visit Accepting Afterpay or Clearpay.
