Pages vs. links in your navigation

While the processes for adding pages and adding links to your navigation are similar, what each option offers is distinct.

When you add a page, you:

  • Create a new page on your site where you can add content
  • Create a link to that page in your navigation

When you add a link, you:

  • Create a new link visitors can click
  • Link to existing content elsewhere or on your site
  • Don't add new content

Because adding a page automatically adds a link to that page in your site's navigation, you don't need to create a separate link for each page. If a page's link isn't appearing on your site, you may need to enable it or move it out of the Not Linked section.

Add a link

To add a link to your navigation:

  1. No Menu Inicial, clique em Páginas.
  2. Click the + icon next to the section where you want to add a link.
  3. In the Create New Page menu, select Link.
  4. In the link editor, enter the link text under Link Title.
  5. Enter a URL under Link, or click the gear icon to link to a category or tagemail address, phone number, or file.
Note: If #4 and #5 doesn't match what you see on your site, visit Adding links to your site and follow the steps to add external, file, or content links.

To add a link to a folder, click and drag it into the folder, or click Add page under the folder to create a new one.

Where you add your link in the Pages panel affects where it appears on your site. To learn more about each navigation section, visit Understanding the Pages panel.

Link to a web address

Use the web address option when you want to link to external sites or content, such as the website for a friend's business or a third-party service you use with your site.

Para adicionar um link para um URL externo:

  1. Click Web Address in the link editor.
  2. Enter a site URL under Link.
  3. Toggle Open in New Window to have the link open in a new tab.
  4. Click Save in the link editor.
  5. Click Save again to add the link to your navigation.

In some cases, you may want to use the web address option to link to content on your own site that you can't otherwise link to, such as:

Link to a page on your site

Use the page option to link to pages, or collections filtered by category or tag.

Tip: Because Index Pages are sets of multiple pages, you can't add them to folders, but you can use this option to add a link to an Index Page in a drop-down menu.

To link to a page:

  1. Click Page in the link editor.
  2. Click into Search to open a menu of all the pages on your site.
  3. Select the page you want to link.
  4. If you're linking to a category or tag on a collection page, select the page, then select the tag or category from the drop-down menu under under Categories or TagsTo learn more, visit Adding links to categories or tags.
  5. Click Save in the link editor.
  6. Click Save again to add the link to your navigation.

You can use this option to link to any page on your site, but it's usually unnecessary since pages automatically include their own navigation link. To learn more, see Pages vs. links in your navigation

Link to an email address

Use the email option to encourage visitors to email you. When a visitor clicks the link, it opens a blank email in their default email service and automatically populates it with your information.

To link to an email address:

  1. Click Email in the link editor.
  2. Under To, enter the email address you want visitors to send their message to.
  3. Under Subject, enter a subject to populate the email's subject line.

  5. Click Save in the link editor.
  6. Click Save again to add the link to your navigation.

Link to a phone number

Use the phone option to encourage visitors to call you. When a visitor taps the link from a smartphone, it prompts them to call the number.

To link to a phone number:

  1. Click Phone in the link editor.
  2. Under Phone Number, enter your phone number, including country code and area code, if applicable.
  3. Click Save in the link editor.
  4. Click Save again to add the link to your navigation.

Use the file option to upload and link to files, like .pdf menus or audio files. Uploaded files always open in new tabs, where visitors can view them or save them to their computer.

To link to a file:

  1. Click File in the link editor.
  2. Click Upload File to select a file from your computer. You can also search for and select a previously uploaded file. A checkmark appears beside the selected file.
