Transaction fees

Squarespace plans include transaction fees for Commerce orders and donations. There are two fee types: Payment processor fees (vary between Stripe and PayPal, applicable to all plans), and Squarespace transaction fees (2%, 3%, or none, depending on your plan).

If you sell products or collect donations on Squarespace, review this guide to understand which rates apply to you, how you’re charged, and how to view your fees per order.

Note: All fees apply to the final order total, including shipping.

Squarespace transaction fees by billing plan

Here are our transaction fees for our current billing plans. If you upgraded to a paid Squarespace site or changed your billing plan starting on November 3, 2015, these fees apply to you.

Legacy Plans

*If you’re on a legacy Website billing plan, you aren’t charged Squarespace transaction fees. This means that if you signed up for Squarespace before November 3, 2015, and haven’t moved into a current billing plan, the Squarespace transaction fee doesn’t apply to you.

Payment processor fees

Stripe and PayPal both charge processing fees.

Stripe’s processing fees vary by country. Visit Stripe’s documentation for details:

If you don’t see your country listed above, contact Stripe for help.

Fees may vary by location. Visit PayPal’s documentation for details. You can also contact PayPal for help.

When you’ll be charged

Fees are collected immediately upon a successful transaction. These fees are separate from your recurring subscription payments with Squarespace and are taken from your payment processor account.

Where to review your transaction fees

To review a breakdown of fees per order, open the order in Stripe. See the Fee line item in the Payment Details section.

Refunds of processing fees vary between payment processors.

Full refunds include Squarespace's transaction fees and partial refunds include a pro-rated portion of the fees. Refunds don't include Stripe's processing fees.

Full refunds include Squarespace's transactions fee and most of PayPal's processing fees, excluding PayPal's fixed transaction fee (for example, $0.30 for transactions for U.S.-based accounts). Partial refunds include a pro-rated portion of the fees, but not PayPal's fixed transaction fee.

How to avoid the Squarespace transaction fee

To avoid the 2% or 3% Squarespace fee, you might consider switching to a Commerce billing plan. Website billing plans are a great way to run a small shop. If you have a large volume of transactions, the Commerce plans waives the Squarespace processing fee.
