Transaction fees

Squarespace plans include transaction fees for Commerce orders and donations. There are two fees: a payment processor fee (applicable to all plans, and varies between Stripe, PayPal, and Square), and a Squarespace transaction fee (3% or none, depending on your plan). Square is available as a payment processor for Squarespace Point of Sale in the Commerce App only.

If you sell products or collect donations on Squarespace, review this guide to understand which rates apply to you, how you’re charged, and how to view your fees per order.

Payment processor fees

Stripe, PayPal, and Square all charge processing fees.

Stripe’s processing fees vary by country. Visit Stripe’s documentation for details:

If you don’t see your country listed above, contact Stripe for help.

Fees may vary by location. Visit PayPal’s documentation for details. You can also contact PayPal for help.

Square’s processing fees vary based on how the payment is made. Visit Square’s documentation to learn more.

When you’ll be charged

Fees are collected immediately upon a successful transaction. These fees are separate from your recurring subscription payments with Squarespace and are taken from your payment processor account.

Fees are based on order totals

All fees apply to the final order total, including any shipping fees. If the final order total is $0, there's no transaction fee from Squarespace or your payment processor.

Where to review your transaction fees

To review a breakdown of fees per order, open the order in Stripe. See the Fee line item in the Payment Details section. You can also download a .csv file by clicking View All Payments in Stripe. Look for these terms associated with Squarespace Commerce:

  • Charge Fee - The transaction fee
  • Charge Gross - The amount sent to Stripe before the fee
  • Charge Net - The amount transferred to the merchant after the fee

To learn more, visit Stripe's documentation.

To review fees, log into your PayPal Business account. In the Activity tab, transaction fees appear as a payment to Squarespace.

To see the processing fees per order in Square, view transactions in your Square dashboard

When you refund customer orders, refunds of processing fees vary between payment processors.

Note: Refunding a donation won't refund the Stripe processing fee and Squarespace transaction fee.

Full refunds include Squarespace's transaction fees and partial refunds include a pro-rated portion of the fees. Refunds don't include Stripe's processing fees.

How to avoid the Squarespace transaction fee

To avoid the 3% Squarespace fee, consider switching to a Commerce billing plan. The Website Business billing plan is a great way to run a small shop. If you have a large volume of transactions, the Commerce plans waive the Squarespace transaction fee.

If you switch from a Business plan to a Commerce plan, we're not able to refund Squarespace transaction fees for orders placed while you were on the Business plan.

For more information, visit Choosing the right Squarespace plan.

Commerce and payment processors are Premium features available in Business and Commerce plans.
