Move one or more items from one collection page to another.

You can move certain collection items between collection pages of the same type. This is a great way to organize your site without recreating content or merging multiple pages into one.

You can move content between blog pages, events pages, store pages, and videos pages.
Products moved between store pages and videos moved between videos pages lose their categories, as categories are specific to each store and video collection. Moved products keep their tags, and videos don't support tags. Other collection items keep both tags and categories.
To move whole pages between dropdowns, drag and drop the page in the Pages panel.
It's not possible to move content between layout pages or portfolio pages.
It's not possible to move images between auto layouts or gallery sections. Reuse images instead.
It's not possible to move collection items between Squarespace sites.

You can move content between album, blog, events, gallery, and store pages.
On the York template family, you can move content between project pages and gallery pages.
Moved items retain any categories or tags added to them on their original page.
To move whole pages between indexes or dropdowns, drag and drop the page in the Pages panel.
It's not possible to move content between layout pages.
It's not possible to move collection items between Squarespace sites.

Move collection items

To move collection items to a new collection page:

Open the Pages panel.
Click the collection page containing the items you're moving. If you're moving products or videos, click the category with the items you want to move, or click All to show all items.
Click the checkbox next to item you want to move.
To select multiple items to move, click the checkbox next to each item, or click Select All to select all items.
In the action bar at the bottom of the panel, click Move.... This button only appears if you have at least one other page of the same type.
In the Select Destination Collection window, click the page where you want to move the items.
Click Move items.

Open the Pages panel.
Click the collection page containing the items you're moving.
In blog, store, and gallery pages, click the item you want to move. In events pages, click the checkbox next to the item. In album pages, press and hold Shift, then click the item.
To select multiple items to move, press and hold Shift, then click additional items. To select all items in the collection, click Select All.
In the action bar at the bottom of the panel, click Move. This button only appears if you have at least one other page of the same type.
In the Select Destination Collection window, click the page where you want to move the items.
Click Move items. The select and move options might look different depending on the page type.

Where the items appear in the new collection page depends on the type:

Blog posts, events - Items are ordered based on their date. To rearrange them, change the dates of the blog post or event.
All other items - Moved items appear at the bottom of the collection. To rearrange the items, click and drag them.

Merge collection pages

To combine multiple collection pages of the same type, follow the steps above to move all collection items to a single page.

After moving all the collection items, you can delete any empty collection pages you don't need anymore. To learn more about deleting pages, visit Deleting pages or blog posts.

Consolidate blog pages with categories

If your site has multiple blog pages for different categories, but you want to combine them into a single blog page organized using our built-in categorization options, follow these steps:

Add the desired categories to all of your blog posts in each blog page.
Move your blog posts into a single blog page.
Create category links that link to filtered versions of the blog page so visitors can browse each category individually.
Delete the empty blog pages.

Organizing blog posts this way helps visitors browse all your posts from a single page. You can also use other site features, like summary blocks, to showcase posts from multiple categories at the same time.

Avoid broken links with URL redirects

Direct URLs for collection items (except album tracks) change to match the new collection page.

For example, if the original blog page was www.yourdomain.com/favoritefood, and the destination blog page is www.yourdomain.com/cookbook, a moved blog post will change:

Original URL (doesn't work): www.yourdomain.com/favoritefood/example-post
New URL: www.yourdomain.com/cookbook/example-post

If visitors try to visit the collection items using the original URLs, they will be taken to your 404 error page.

If both pages were public, we recommend setting up 301 redirects to ensure your SEO isn't impacted and visitors don't go to broken links.

Display collection items on layout pages

It's not possible to move collection items directly to layout pages, but in version 7.1, you can add block sections above or below the collection section to have layout page designs alongside your collection.

In both version 7.1 and version 7.0, you can also use blocks to pull certain collection items into layout pages:

Calendar blocks - Display events or other collection items in a calendar design.
Product blocks - Display individual products from existing store pages.
Summary blocks - Display blog posts, events, products, or videos in a variety of layouts. On version 7.0 sites, you can display images and videos from gallery pages too.

You can also link to collection items using archive blocks or tag cloud blocks.
