RSS subscribers analytics

Review the numbers of unique visitors to your RSS feed URL.

Last updated October 9, 2023

Your site includes built-in RSS feeds for blog pages and other collections. In Squarespace analytics, RSS subscribers estimates the total amount of traffic that your RSS feed(s) receives in a selected time frame.

Accessing this feature

The RSS subscribers panel is available in all plans.

Review the RSS subscribers panel

  1. Open the Analytics panel, click Engagement, then click RSS subscribers.
  2. Click the drop-down menu on the top-left of the panel if you have multiple blogs or RSS feeds on your site. Every blog page on your site has its own RSS feed. To view all of your feeds, select All feeds.
  3. Click the date range drop-down menu on the top-right of the panel to filter results by time frame. Data is available starting from January, 2014.

Subscriber estimates

The RSS subscriber count is an estimate based on a combination of data:

  • Number of unique visitors to your RSS feed URLs, based on IP address
  • Data from RSS feed readers representing multiple subscribers, like Feedly or Flipboard. These services each calculate subscribers differently, and some numbers may be estimates.

Graph

The line graph shows trends over time for the selected date range for the selected RSS feeds.

Click the Daily drop-down menu to change the time scale. Time scale options depend on the number of available data points.

Custom date ranges show data starting from the earliest Sunday (weekly) or first of the month (monthly) in the range. For example, if your range starts on Friday April 24, the weekly graph shows data from Sunday April 26th on, and the monthly graph shows data from May 1st on.

Hover over any point on the graph to view data for a specific date.

Tip

In the Squarespace app, the graph in the RSS subscribers card also shows comparison data for the previous time frame.

For podcasters using Squarespace

Traffic from Apple Podcasts is included as traffic to your podcast’s RSS feed. Note that this doesn’t measure your podcast subscribers - it’s only a measure of traffic.

If you replaced your default RSS URL

If you replaced your default RSS URL through a service like Feedburner, how the service processes data can affect its accuracy.

If a service makes a request from the RSS feed for each new subscriber, or when a subscriber checks for updates, this should be fairly accurate. However, if the service makes batched requests and displays that same information to all subscribers, we can't guarantee precise accuracy. We’re unable to provide detailed support for these third-party services.

Potential discrepancies

Daily values may not exactly match Weekly and higher values for a few reasons:

  • The RSS count is an estimate based on IP addresses and data from feed readers.
  • Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly time frames process the numbers differently to provide more accurate estimates for longer time periods.
