Custom email addresses and Squarespace

Set up and send emails using a custom email address that matches your domain.

Last updated January 28, 2025

If you have a custom domain linked to your Squarespace site, you can also add a custom email address. For example, if your domain is www.sampledomain.com, you can use a custom email address that matches your domain, like janedoe@sampledomain.com.

There are a couple ways to add email to Squarespace:

  • If you don’t already have a custom email address, use our integration with Google Workspace (formerly called G Suite) to set up a new account.
  • If you already have a custom email address, you can keep using it with Squarespace.

Custom email addresses work with Squarespace domains and third-party domains.

Use Google Workspace

If you don't already have a custom email address for your domain, you can create a new one through our partnership with Google Workspace. When you sign up for Google Workspace through Squarespace, you’ll manage your email account billing through Squarespace, but use Google's interface to access your emails, calendars, and documents.

Use an email address you already have

If you already have a custom email address, you can use it with your Squarespace site.

If your email is linked to a third-party domain, connecting your domain to Squarespace won’t affect the way your email is hosted. If your email is linked to a Squarespace domain, you can continue using your third-party email service by changing your domain’s MX records.

Note

If you’re transferring a domain to Squarespace, you can move your MX records to Squarespace along with your domain, but we suggest contacting your email provider before getting started. For more information, visit Transferring a domain to Squarespace.

Is my email hosted by Squarespace?

No. Your email is always hosted externally, even though your site is hosted by Squarespace. If your domain is hosted by Squarespace, your email account is still separate. When you use our integration with Google Workspace, you'll manage your Google Workspace billing through Squarespace, but Google hosts the email address.

Here’s how those three elements can work with your site:

Send emails successfully

When you send a message from a custom email address, the receiving email provider might block the email or mark it as "spam." To help email providers deliver your message to the recipient's inbox, add DKIM records to your domain.

If you set up your custom email address through Google Workspace, visit Google's documentation on using DKIM records and SPF records. If you have a custom email address through a different provider, contact them for more information about using DKIM or SPF records.
