Enabling and disabling pages

Make pages public or hide them from visitors and search engines.

Last updated January 2, 2025

When you add a page, it’s automatically enabled on your live site and can be indexed by search engines. To hide a page from visitors and search engines, you can manually disable it. This is useful if your page is under construction or if you want to hide a page temporarily and republish it later.

Automatically disabled pages

Your site might include pages that are automatically disabled if:

Use the steps below to enable pages. You may need to change your billing plan first.

Enable a page

To enable a page:

  1. Open the Pages panel.
  2. Hover over the page you want to enable, then click the gear icon to open page settings.
  3. Switch the Enable Page toggle on, then click Save.

Disable a page

You can disable pages of any type. To disable a page:

  1. Open the Pages panel.
  2. Hover over the page you want to disable, then click the gear icon to open page settings.
  3. Switch the Enable Page toggle off, then click Save.

Keep in mind:

  • Disabling a collection page will disable the individual collection items within that page, such as blog posts or products. However, content from disabled collections can still display in certain blocks, like summary blocks or gallery blocks.
  • Disabling a store page prevents customers from purchasing products, but if a customer already has a product in their shopping cart before you disable the page, they can still purchase it. To prevent this, hide the individual products too. This removes the products from their cart.
  • Portfolio sub-pages are collection items and can't be disabled individually.
  • It's not possible to disable dropdowns. If you need to hide dropdown content, disable all the pages within the dropdown, then move it to the Not linked section of your navigation.

Other options for hiding pages

Disabled pages appear in your pages panel when logged in, but they won’t appear on your site’s navigation or be accessible by public visitors or search engines. If you don't want to completely disable a page, you can use these options to hide a page to varying degrees:

  • To keep a page active, but hidden from your navigation, move it to your Not linked section instead of disabling it.
  • To keep a page private for some visitors, but still visible on your navigation, add a page password instead of disabling it.
  • To keep a page active for visitors, but hide it from search engines, add a noindex tag.
