Customers can pay in-person by tapping their device or credit card.

You can use Tap to Pay on iPhone with Squarespace point of sale (POS) to accept in-person, contactless payments directly on your device with no extra readers or hardware needed. From your Squarespace app, enter the amount to charge, and have your customer tap their device or card to complete the purchase.

Tap to Pay on iPhone is only available in the US, and if you're connected to a payment processor that supports Tap to Pay, such as Squarespace Payments, Stripe, or Square.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Tap to Pay on your iPhone, you need to:

• Have an online store based in the United States.
• Ensure your store's currency matches the local currency of your store's locations.
• Connect to a payment processor that supports Tap to Pay, such as Squarespace Payments, Stripe, or Square.
• Have the Squarespace App installed on your iPhone with the Squarespace (POS) set up.
• Have an internet connection.
• Have location services turned on for your iPhone.
• Meet all of the device requirements for Squarespace POS.

Accepted payment methods

You can accept the following payment methods on Tap to Pay on iPhone:

• VISA
• MasterCard
• Amex
• Diners Club (United States only)
• Discover (United States only)

With Tap to Pay on iPhone, you can also accept payments made from the Wallet app.

If a customer wants to use a payment method that requires contact, like a swipe or chip-insert card, you need to have a separate card reader paired with your iPhone. For transactions that require a PIN, the PIN screen automatically appears. 

Enable Tap to Pay on iPhone

From the Squarespace POS on your Squarespace app:

1. Open the Squarespace app.
2. If prompted, log in or select your site.
3. On the point of sale screen, tap ⚙️ to open Settings.
4. Tap Payment options, and switch the Tap to Pay on iPhone toggle on.
5. Verify the Apple ID and select your Apple ID:
   • Tap Continue with This Apple ID to use your current Apple ID or tap Use a Different Apple ID to select a different Apple ID.
   • Accept Apple's Terms of Service.
6. Tap Done.

You can start accepting payments on any iPhone connected to your store. 

Keep in mind that when Tap to Pay on iPhone is activated for your store, it automatically pairs with all compatible devices that are logged into Squarespace POS under your store's account. There's no additional setup required for new devices. 

Tap to Pay on iPhone prevents devices from capturing a customer’s card or PIN information through photos, videos, or screenshots.

Accept payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone

To accept a Tap to Pay on iPhone payment from the Squarespace POS:

1. Open the Squarespace app.
2. If prompted, log in or select your site.
3. Tap +, then tap Start new transaction.
4. Tap the Bag screen, and then tap Charge.
5. Tap Tap to Pay on iPhone next to Payment method.
6. Hold the card or NFC device near the front of your iPhone. A spinning circle will appear while the payment is authorized, and a beep will sound. 
7. The transaction is complete when the Done checkmark or the card's logo appears. For PIN entry, the phone will automatically prompt the customer to enter their PIN.
8. Optional: Send the customer an email receipt.
9. Tap Done to return to the Squarespace POS.

Remove Tap to Pay on iPhone

To disconnect Tap to Pay on iPhone, or change the Apple ID associated with your store, visit Apple’s documentation. Keep in mind that changes made to the Apple Business Register can take up to 15 minutes to take effect. 

To reconnect your store after it’s been disconnected, contact us.

Note: Disconnecting Tap to Pay on iPhone doesn’t affect your ability to process transactions using other payment methods, like a Square Reader.
