Page titles and descriptions by template in version 7.0

Learn which version 7.0 templates display page titles and descriptions.

Last updated January 7, 2025

Page titles and page descriptions display on your site in some templates. In other templates, they don't display. If you want search results to show different text, add an SEO title and description for that page.

This guide reviews how page titles and descriptions display in different template families in version 7.0.

Page titles and descriptions in version 7.1

It's not possible to add page descriptions in version 7.1 sites, but you can add and edit page titles. These don't display on most of the pages on your site, but they'll appear in browser tabs and search results if there's no SEO title.

You can display page titles on store pages above the category navigation if the Category Title is enabled in section styles.

To display a title or description on all other page types, add a block section at the top and use a text block.

Display by template

Here's how page titles and page descriptions display in these template families.

  • The display is the same on computers and mobile, except where noted.

Change the text

To change or add the page title or description:

  3. Update the Page title and Page description fields in the General tab.

Hide titles and descriptions

For all templates, you can remove a page description by deleting the text from the General tab of page settings.

Tip

If you delete a page description, add an SEO title or description instead. These won't display on your site, but they're helpful for SEO.

These template families have tweaks for hiding all page titles and descriptions:

Template family Tweak name

Adirondack

  • Show page titles & descriptions - Hides the title and description.

Five

  • Banner content - Choose any option other than Page title description to hide them both.

Momentum

  • Page title/description - Excludes Index Pages.

Montauk

  • Hide page title - Page title only. Excludes Gallery Pages.
  • Hide page banner - Hiding the page banner also hides the page title and description.

Pacific

  • Show page title - Page title only.

Tremont

  • Show page title - Album, blog, events, products, or layout pages
  • Show page description - Album, blog, events, products, or layout pages
  • Show gallery overlay - For index and gallery pages, hiding the overlay hides the page title and description

York

  • Show [page type] title and Show [page type] description - Hides the title or description for any page type.

Adding titles and descriptions in other templates

If your template doesn't display page titles and descriptions automatically, there are other ways to achieve the same effect.

SEO titles and descriptions are different

Page SEO titles and SEO descriptions never display on your site. These are useful if your template displays page titles and descriptions, and you want search results to show different text.

For example, you may want to optimize your SEO titles and descriptions with search-engine friendly keywords, while keeping your page title and description shorter, or removing them altogether.

You can add SEO titles and SEO descriptions in the SEO tab of page settings.
