SoundCloud blocks

Embed an audio player so site visitors can listen to tracks or playlists hosted on SoundCloud.

Last updated February 22, 2023

Use SoundCloud blocks to embed tracks, playlists, and profile content from SoundCloud.

On mobile devices, visitors can play tracks in their mobile browser by tapping Listen in browser on SoundCloud blocks. The SoundCloud app isn't required.

Tip

SoundCloud blocks won't work for podcasts. Use audio blocks instead.

Add a SoundCloud block

To add a SoundCloud block:

  1. Edit a page or post, click Add Block or an insert point, then click SoundCloud. For help, visit Adding content with blocks.
  2. Open the block editor by clicking the pencil icon on the block.
  3. Add a SoundCloud track with a URL or embed code. If your site is on version 7.0, click Apply to publish your changes.

Add content

You can add content to SoundCloud blocks in two ways:

Option 1 - Via a URL

  1. Find the URL of a track, a playlist, or a profile.
  2. Copy and paste the URL into the SoundCloud block.
  3. If the URL is correct, you'll see a "Successfully Located" message, and the SoundCloud content will display on the page.
Successfully Located appears after adding an embeddable URL to the SoundCloud Block.

Option 2 - Via embed code

For more control over the content, you can use embed codes generated by SoundCloud:

  1. On SoundCloud, find the track you'd like to embed.
  2. Click Share.
  3. Click the Embed tab.
  4. Copy the embed code that appears. To set the code to play music automatically when visitors load the page, see Enable automatic play.
  5. On your Squarespace site, click Edit or the pencil icon on the SoundCloud block.
  6. Click the embed icon.
Click the embed icon to add the SoundCloud embed code.
  1. Paste your code into the Edit Embed Data window, then click Set to save your changes.

Note

SoundCloud blocks have a standard design that can't be customized. However, if you have coding knowledge, you can use this option for more control over how SoundCloud audio displays. Using embed codes from SoundCloud is an advanced modification that falls outside of the scope of Squarespace support.

Enable automatic play

You can use the embed option to make the music play automatically when a visitor loads the page:

  1. On SoundCloud, click the Embed tab on the track.
  2. Scroll down and click More Options.
  3. Check Enable automatic play.
  4. Add this version of the code to the Edit Embed Data window on Squarespace.
  5. Click Set to save your changes.

Note

Newer versions of some browsers block autoplay.

Resize SoundCloud blocks

You can resize SoundCloud blocks horizontally with spacer blocks and vertically using the cropping handle. To learn more, visit Resizing blocks.
