Creating blog posts from a reusable layout

Save time when creating blog posts by duplicating reusable layouts.

Last updated June 13, 2023

If you use similar blocks and arrangements for all your blog posts, we recommend creating a reusable blog post layout. You can do this by creating the layout in a blog post draft, then duplicating the draft every time you want to add to your blog.

Create the reusable layout

To create the reusable post layout:

  1. Open the Pages panel and click the blog page.
  2. Click in the blog panel.
  3. Enter a clear post title, like "Blog post template," so you know this is your reusable layout.
  4. Set up the post the way you want, with any text or other content you want to appear in all of your blog posts, or placeholder blocks to update each time you use the layout.
  5. Click Save. Ensure you don't click Publish or Schedule. You'll keep this post as a draft in your blog panel permanently.
  6. Most blog post settings will vary post to post, but if there are certain elements you know you want on every post, like a specific category or tag, add those to your reusable layout, too.

Alternately, you could use a previously published blog post as your reusable layout, but that may make it difficult to keep track of what content needs to be updated when you duplicate it.

Duplicate the layout for new blog posts

When you're ready to create a new post:

  1. Open the blog page and find your reusable layout draft in the side panel. You can filter by Draft to exclude published posts.
  2. Duplicate the draft.
  3. Update any placeholder content with your new post's content.
  4. When you're ready, publish or schedule the post.

Repeat these steps anytime you need to create a new blog post.
