Managing Squarespace domains registered through a third-party reseller

Identifying, managing, and getting help for the Squarespace domain you registered through a reseller

Last updated November 26, 2024

You can purchase a Squarespace domain by registering your domain:

If you registered your Squarespace domain through a third party instead of through Squarespace directly, you have a resold domain. Domain resellers act as intermediaries between the registrar (in this case, Squarespace), and the customer.

If you have a resold domain, you'll manage some parts of your domain through the account you have with your reseller, not Squarespace.

Note

If you registered your domain through Google Workspace, visit Managing domains registered through Google Workspace.

Identify your resold domain

To find out if you registered your domain through a reseller:

  1. Open your domains dashboard.
  2. Click the domain in question to open its domain details page.
  3. If you purchased your domain from a reseller, the reseller's company name appears under the domain's expiration date.

Where to manage your resold domain

Where you manage your domain and who you contact for support will vary depending on what you're trying to do with your domain.

Use the table below to understand where to manage your domain.

  • Canceling
  • Enabling/disabling auto-renew
  • Reactivating expired domains

  • Updating payment information

Contact your reseller for help taking these actions.

Exceptions for domains registered via Google Cloud

Domains registered through Google Cloud are entirely managed with Google Cloud. Squarespace doesn’t have access or visibility into the settings or billing information of these domains. To manage the domain you registered via Google Cloud, ‌log into your Google Cloud account. You can’t use a Squarespace account to manage these domains.

If you have any questions about your domain or are having trouble accessing your domain, contact Google Cloud for support.

Your first time logging into Squarespace

After registering your domain with your reseller, you can log into Squarespace to start managing your domain.

If you don't have a Squarespace account

If you didn't have an account with us before registering your domain, we automatically created a Squarespace account for you with the email address from your reseller account. To log in:

  1. Find the welcome email you received from your reseller when you registered your domain.
  2. Open the email and click the account verification link. You'll need to verify your email address before you can begin managing your domain.
  3. Click Send verification email to send yourself a verification email.
  4. Open the email you received, then click Verify.
  5. You'll be sent to a screen where you'll create a password to your new Squarespace account and log in.

If you can't find your welcome email or get an authorization error when you try to log in:

  1. Navigate to squarespace.com/login and click Can't log in.
  2. Enter the email address for the account you have with your reseller, then click Send Email.
  3. You’ll receive a password recovery email from no-reply@squarespace.com.
  4. Click Password Reset in the email. You'll be directed to a password reset page.
  5. Create a password for your new Squarespace account and click Continue.

If you get other error messages or have any issues logging in, please contact us.

If you already have a Squarespace account

If you already have a Squarespace account associated with the email address you use to log into the account you have with your reseller, navigate to squarespace.com/login and log into your Squarespace account as you normally would. Your domains will appear in your domains dashboard.

Verify your domain

After registering your domain, you'll receive an email from Squarespace with the subject “Verify your email for Squarespace domains.” Open the email and click Verify. If you don't verify your domain registration within 15 days of registration, your domain will be suspended.

Tip

This is a separate process from the account verification steps above.

Connect your resold domain to a Squarespace site

To link your resold domain to a Squarespace site, you can connect the domain.

It's not possible to move a resold domain to a Squarespace site. A moved domain shares billing settings with the Squarespace website it's moved to. Because the billing settings for resold domains are managed through your reseller, it's not possible for them to share billing settings with a Squarespace site.

Connect your resold domain to a non-Squarespace site

To use your domain with a non-Squarespace site, add records to your domain's DNS settings to point the domain to the site.
