Disqus is a third-party commenting platform you can use to replace Squarespace's default commenting system in a Blog Page.
You can use Disqus to support threaded conversations, image comments, or other commenting functionality our built-in blog comments don't currently support.
Note: If SSL is enabled on your site, you may need to update your Disqus URL to use the secure "https" prefix. To continue displaying Disqus comments made before this security update, use Disqus' URL Mapper.
Before you begin
Disqus comments are URL-specific. This means comments only appear to visitors who access the site using the same URL. Visitors using your custom domain to comment can't see their comments when visiting your built-in Squarespace URL. This also applies to the secure (https) version of your URL. For this reason, you'll want to provide the same URL for all visitors to view your site.
Note: Disqus is a third-party service and its commenting system won't integrate with Squarespace's built-in comment management and notification features.
Step 1 - Get your Disqus shortname
Log into Disqus. In the Home screen, click the gear icon and select Add Disqus to Site.
Follow these steps to create your Disqus shortname:
- Scroll down and click Get Started.
- Select I want to install Disqus on my site.
- Enter your Website Name, which will serve as your Disqus shortname, and select a Category from the drop-down menu.
- Click Create Site.
- Select Squarespace.
Copy your Disqus shortname.
Step 2 - Go to Blog Settings
On your Squarespace site, in the Home Menu, click Settings, and then click Blogging.
Step 3 - Enter your Disqus shortname
Enter your Disqus Shortname in the box.
Step 4 - Enable Comments Globally
On the Blogging panel, click Comment Settings, then check Enable Comments Globally. Once you save, a Disqus commenting box will replace the default Squarespace commenting option for blog posts.
Step 5 - Commenting with Disqus
The Disqus comment system replaces Squarespace's built-in system. You can preview how your Disqus will look on your Squarespace site by visiting your blog page at the same URL you selected when creating your Disqus account.
To leave a comment, a visitor will first need to first log in using a Disqus, Facebook, Twitter, or Google account, or create a new Disqus name.

I see a message saying "We were unable to load Disqus."
To resolve the issue, check that:
- You created a Disqus account for Websites (as opposed to a User account).
- You added your Disqus Shortname to your Blog Settings in Squarespace.

Will previous Disqus comments display after I add Disqus to my Squarespace site?
Adding Disqus to your site overrides Squarespace's default comment system, so comments that aren't on Disqus won't appear.

Why are Disqus comments not appearing?
Disqus comments are specific to the URL added to your Disqus account. This means that adding the custom domain of your site (www.yourdomain.com) into your Disqus account will only display at that custom URL and not your built-in Squarespace URL (yoursitename.squarespace.com).
Disqus comments also may not display properly on templates with Ajax loading enabled.
