With a Squarespace site, you can sell everything from t-shirts to special events tickets to streaming yoga classes. Whether you're starting out or have been selling online for years, this guide can help you take the next steps in earning income with your site. Review the options below to identify which selling tools to use now, and which ones you could use in the future as your business grows.

Build a store to sell online and in person

You can create a store on your site to offer the following product types:

Stores work best for products and services that don't need an appointment to complete the transaction. You can use your store to sell in person and online while keeping your inventory consistently updated. To increase sales, connect your store to Facebook and Instagram, and reach your customers as they scroll social media.

Examples of selling through a store

Stores are versatile tools to monetize your site. Here are a few examples of ways to sell with your store:

  • Collect recurring fees for ‌services like doggy daycare, storage space, or car maintenance packages using subscription products.
  • Charge for on-site services like massages, bike tune-ups, or tarot readings at markets using service products.
  • Debut your latest fashion line on social media and sell the items using physical products and a product drop.
  • Offer your photographs or digital art as prints, greeting cards, and stickers that ship directly to your customer using a print on demand service.
  • Sell your audiobook or an album of music as a zipped file of MP3s using download products.

If you’re not sure if a store is right for your site, review the Online Sellers club in our Squarespace Forum to learn how others are using their online stores.

Start building a store

You can create a store on any Squarespace site by adding a store page and choosing a website plan that supports Commerce. To learn more about starting your store, watch our video series or review Getting started with Squarespace Commerce.

Sell access to your content

You can use Digital Products to create recurring revenue by selling access to your site’s exclusive content. When you build a blog page, course page, video page, or member site, you can place the page's content behind a paywall. Then visitors sign up for a pricing plan to access the content. You can charge a fixed amount, a recurring subscription fee, or offer the content for free after the visitor creates an account.

Examples of Digital Products content

Digital Products is a set of adaptable tools to help you create passive income from your site. Here are a few examples of how to use it:

  • Offer worksheets by placing downloadable .pdf links on a Member Site.
  • Sell access to your workout routines, recipes, or guided meditations using a videos page.
  • Teach members how to negotiate and network, grow and trim Bonsai trees, or learn a choreographed dance routine using a course page.

If you’re not sure if Digital Products content is right for your site, review our Member Sites page for more inspiration. To learn more, visit Getting started with Digital Products.

  • Generate leads via form blocks
  • Collect deposits and send payment reminders
  • Track your revenue and key project milestones

You can send invoices and manage projects on any Squarespace plan.

Expanding your business as it grows

After your site is all set up to start earning money, consider these next steps:

Keep growing with Squarespace

Your site can accommodate your business as it expands. Use one or two of our selling tools to start, and add more as you need them.

For example, let's say you offer meditation in the park and use Acuity Scheduling to fill your classes. As your classes grow, you build an online store to sell downloads of recorded meditations. When customers comment on how much they like your logo, you set up a print on demand service to sell customized shirts, stickers, and water bottles. To reach a bigger online audience, you build a member area with classes and special themed meditations. Your network grows, as does your customer base, and eventually you organize a meditation festival and use Tock to sell tickets.
