Growing your mailing lists with Squarespace

Use built-in form features to gather new subscribers and increase your customer base.

You can grow your audience for email campaigns by adding forms that encourage visitors to sign up for your mailing list. Squarespace sites have multiple options for adding new subscribers, and you can store Email Campaigns mailing lists directly within your site.

Tip

This guide explains how you can collect subscribers using built-in Squarespace features. To add contacts manually or import existing mailing lists, visit Building mailing lists. If you get started and decide you want more hands-on help, you can hire a vetted Squarespace Expert.

Collect new subscribers

There are several ways to add forms to your site that connect to your mailing lists.

  • Newsletter block - Create a subscription form for your site in any area where you add blocks, such as a layout page, footer, or blog post. If your site uses Member Sites, add a newsletter block to your gated content so members can join your mailing list.
  • Promotional pop-ups - Create a pop-up with a subscription form that appears when visitors land on your site or a specific page.
  • Checkout - During checkout, encourage customers to sign up for your mailing list.
  • Acuity Scheduling - Connect an Acuity form to a mailing list so clients can sign up for your list when scheduling an appointment.
  • Point of sale - When you make a sale via Squarespace point of sale in the iOS Squarespace app, customers can subscribe to a mailing list at checkout.
  • Cover pages - Add a newsletter form to a splash page with unique styles. You can replicate the look of cover pages in version 7.1 by hiding the header and footer.

Tip

To include a "Subscribe" option in your campaign, create a page on your site with a newsletter block, then link to it from a button section.

Use Squarespace for storage

For each feature you use to collect new subscribers through Squarespace, connect the form's storage area to an Email Campaigns mailing list. It's not possible to set up the connection in the mailing list's settings.

To check your mailing lists:

  1. Open the Lists & Segments panel.
  2. Click the mailing list you want to review.

Each storage area can point to only one mailing list at a time, but you can connect multiple forms to each mailing list. Subscribers will need to verify their subscription before their email address is added to the list.

Tip

You can connect to mailing lists and use them to gather contact information even if you haven't subscribed to Email Campaigns yet.

Receive notifications when subscribers sign up

To receive notifications when your mailing lists get new subscribers, connect your newsletter block or other signup form to both Squarespace and Google Drive.

It's not possible to receive notifications using only Squarespace storage, but if you also connect Google Drive, you can enable notifications on the Google Sheet where you're collecting subscribers.

This way, you have a Google Sheet as a backup storage option, and you receive notifications whenever someone subscribes to your Email Campaigns mailing list.

Track audience engagement

After sending a campaign or enabling an automation, you can track your audience's engagement with email campaign analytics.

With campaign analytics, review key performance indicators, including delivery, opened, clicked, and unsubscribed rates. In the Traffic sources panel of your site's analytics, track how many visitors are coming from campaigns.

Use this data to find out what content is having the most impact on your audience, tailor future campaigns to maintain subscriber interest, and draw the attention of new subscribers.
