Reconnecting forms to Google Drive

Manually reconnect all of the forms on your site to Google Drive by October 23, 2024.

Last updated October 1, 2024

Due to recent updates from Google, all forms that use Google Drive to store responses need to be manually reconnected by October 23, 2024. Otherwise, Google Drive will stop receiving submissions from those forms.

You may have Google Drive linked as a storage option in form blocks, newsletter blocks, promotional pop-up forms, or cover page forms.

Step 1 - Disconnect from Google Drive

No matter where you have forms on your site, the first step is disconnecting from Google Drive first:

  1. Log into your Google Drive account.
  2. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner and select Settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click Manage Apps.
  4. Scroll down to Squarespace, and click Options.
  5. Select Disconnect from Drive from the dropdown menu. This will disconnect Google Drive from all forms using that Google Drive account. You only need to disconnect from Google’s end once.

Step 2 - Reconnect forms on your site

To reconnect a form or newsletter block:

  1. Open the Pages panel, click Edit on a page with a form or forms, then double-click a form block or newsletter block that has an existing Google Drive connection.
  2. Click the Storage tab.
  3. Click Google Drive, click Disconnect, then click Disconnect again to confirm.
  4. Then, click Connect next to Google Drive, and follow the prompts to connect the form back to Google Drive.
  5. After reconnecting, type a name for the new spreadsheet that will receive the form submissions, then click out of the menu to save your changes. It's not possible to reconnect to an existing spreadsheet.
  6. Repeat this process for all forms on the page and all other pages with forms on them.

Tip

While editing your form and newsletter blocks, ensure the Contacts panel is set up as a storage option too so you can view form details and submitted email addresses from within your site.

To reconnect a form in a promotional pop-up:

  1. Open the promotional pop-up panel, then click Action.
  2. Click the Storage tab, then click Connect to other services to see Google Drive.
  3. Click Google Drive, click Disconnect, then click Disconnect again to confirm.
  4. Then, click Connect next to Google Drive, and follow the prompts to connect the form back to Google Drive.
  5. After reconnecting, type a name for the spreadsheet that will receive the form submissions, then click Save.

To reconnect a form on a cover page:

  1. Open the Pages panel, then click the cover page that's using a form connected to Google Drive.
  2. Click Action, then click Edit Form.
  3. In the window that appears, click the Storage tab.
  4. Click Google Drive, click Disconnect, then click Disconnect again to confirm.
  5. Then, click Connect next to Google Drive, and follow the prompts to connect the form back to Google Drive.
  6. After reconnecting, type a name for the spreadsheet that will receive the form submissions, then click Save.

Step 3 - Send test forms (optional)

After reconnecting your forms to Google Drive, we recommend sending a few test form submissions to ensure your new sheets are receiving submissions normally.

FAQ

Will I lose any form submissions that I've stored previously?

As long as you follow the steps to reconnect all forms using Google Drive as a storage option by October 23, 2024, you won't miss any form submissions.

Will the submissions go to a new Google Sheet when I reconnect the form?

Yes. When reconnecting, you'll type a sheet title that will be created in your Google Drive to collect submissions. This process always creates a new sheet, even if you type the title of the previously connected sheet.

Google Sheets supports exporting and importing data, so you may be able to import data from a previous sheet into a newly created sheet. Support for Google Sheets is outside the scope of Squarespace Support.

Do I need to reconnect any other form storage options?

No, Google's updates only affect forms using Google Drive as a storage option.
