Resetting a Google Workspace password

Change the password you use to log into Google Workspace.

Last updated December 18, 2024

If you’re having trouble logging in to your Google Workspace (previously G Suite) inbox, you may need to reset your password. Your ability to reset Google Workspace passwords vary, depending on your permission levels in Squarespace and Google Workspace:

  • Squarespace - To reset passwords, you need to be a site Owner or Administrator
  • Google Workspace - To reset passwords, you need to be a Google Workspace super administrator or administrator

If you haven’t logged in to your Google Workspace account before, visit Logging into Google Workspace.

Note

If you don’t have the required permissions, contact the site owner or someone in your organization who has Google Workspace administrator permissions. They can reset your password.

If you have Administrator permissions, you can reset passwords from the Google Workspace panel. We also recommend these steps if your Google Workspace email address is the only email in your account or if you need to reset passwords for other users.

Note

When you reset Google Workspace email passwords, the current password no longer works. You must create a new password to access the account.

Follow these steps to send a reset link to an alternate email account:

  1. Open the Google Workspace panel.
  2. Under Users, click the next to the Administrator you'd like to reset the password for.

  3. Click Reset Password. If Send Invitation appears instead of Reset Password, go to next steps here.
  4. Enter an alternate email address where you want the reset link sent. We recommend using a personal email address or another easily accessible account. If you send the password reset email to the same address you're resetting, it won't be possible to log in and finish resetting the password.
  5. Squarespace sends an email with a reset link to the alternate address you provided. Click the link and follow the instructions to create a new password.

Option 2 - Reset passwords in Google Workspace Admin console

We recommend resetting your password in Squarespace since it requires fewer steps. If you’re a Google Workspace administrator, you can reset passwords from the Google Admin console.

When resetting your password directly from your Google Admin console, Google’s Account Recovery Wizard may ask you to add a CNAME record to your domain host’s DNS settings. You can ignore this message. Instead, reset your password in Squarespace.

I never received my temporary password

When you sign up for Google Workspace, we send you a welcome email with the temporary password you need to log into your account for the first time. If you can't find that email in your inbox, you can resend the welcome email.

The Google Workspace panel shows “Send Invitation” instead of “Reset Password”

If you're resetting the password for a user who hasn't yet logged in to Google Workspace, Send Invitation appears instead of Reset Password. To send a new invitation, follow the steps in Signing up for Google Workspace.
