Offering a free product

Sell a product at no cost and offer free shipping.

Last updated August 23, 2023

You can offer a free physical, download, or service product by setting the price to 0.00 or by creating a discount. You can only offer free products for one-time purchases, not subscriptions.

Note

It's not possible to hide the billing fields during checkout for free products.

Create a free product

To create a new product, follow these steps to add the product.

To change the price of an existing product:

  1. Open the Pages panel.
  2. Click a store page.
  3. Click All, then double-click a product to open the product editor. For detailed steps, visit Editing a product.
  4. Set the price to $0.00.
  5. Click Save.

Free sales and discounts

To make the product free temporarily during a sale period, switch the toggle on beside On sale, then set the sale price to $0.00. Switch the toggle off beside On sale to list the product at its regular price.

You can also create a discount to make a product free. This is a great way to offer free products to specific customers or create discounts for orders over a set amount.

Create a free shipping option

If you sell physical products, shoppers won't be able to check out until you add a shipping option. To ensure the order total is $0.00, add a free shipping option

How shoppers check out

In your store, the product's price will display as 0.00 in your currency.

When customers purchase a free physical product with free shipping, it's not possible to completely hide the billing fields at checkout, but customers can skip them and click Continue to complete their order.

You don't need to connect a payment processor for shoppers to successfully check out if their order total (including shipping) is $0.00. However, until you connect a payment processor, a banner will display at checkout that says Checkout is closed

It's not possible to skip the billing address fields for free download and service products.

Tip

Add additional information to free products to let customers know they can skip the billing fields at checkout.
