Change the design, text, and sender details of your customer email notifications.

You can customize the sender details your customers see, edit email text, and add merge tags. To customize your email colors, fonts, and overall design, change your global email styles.

Change your global email styles

The automated emails your site sends to customers, members, and donors have shared style that you can customize in global email styles. Global email styles affect your email colors, fonts, buttons, and header and footer areas. The changes you make to your global email styles automatically apply to all emails in the customer notifications panel.

Open global email styles

To open global email styles:

1. Open the customer notifications panel.
2. Click Global email styles. 
3. Click Edit email. 

Match email styles to your site

In the global email styles panel, click Quickly match your site to apply your site’s existing color themes and logo to your emails.

Customize email styles

In the global email styles panel, click an email component to change its style. Changes you make here apply to all customer notifications, abandoned cart recovery emails, and customer review emails.

You can customize these details:

• Colors - Email background, Email color, and Line color
• Font - Font pack, font sizes, text and link colors
• Button - Style, alignment, colors, font
• Header - The header layout, color, and font. You can also add branding (an image, logo, or text) and show or hide your site title. 
• Footer - The footer layout, color, and font. You can also add branding (an image, logo, or text), your business information and tax registration ID, and social links. 

Edit individual emails

Edit email text and padding for individual emails

You can change the text and padding for individual emails. You can also add sections to include more text, images, and other formatting elements.

1. Click an email in the customer notifications panel, then click Edit email.
2. Click a text area to edit it. 
3. Edit the text. You can add formatting and merge tags.
4. Click the + icon to add a new section. You can add text, images, a spacer block, or a horizontal line.
5. Click the Style tab to change the text padding.
6. Click the Email tab to change the subject line and preview text, which displays in the recipient's email client.
7. Click Save.

Add merge tags to individual emails

Text with a dotted underline represents a merge tag, which displays personalized information about your site or the customer, like their name or order number. To add a merge tag:

1. In the email preview, highlight text.
2. In the text formatting bar, click the arrow icon.
3. Select the tag.

The merge tags you can add depend on the the email:

• Customer first name - Product restock, Customer account welcome, Password reset,  and Password updated emails. 
• Donor first name - Donation confirmation email. 
  Linked site title - All emails. 
• Order number - Order confirmed, Order refunded, Order fulfilled, Download product emails. 
• Site title - All emails. 
• Subscriber first name - Subscription canceled, Subscription authorization required emails. 
• Subscription name - Subscription canceled, Subscription authorization required, Subscription payment declined emails.

Customize the order confirmation email for products & services based on the product type

Include text in the order confirmation email for products and services that changes based on the product type. For example, you may want to provide shipping lead times for physical products, or information about how a download link works.

1. In the email preview, click [Add an optional custom message based on product type.]
2. Edit the product-type text in the panel that displays.
3. When you’re done, click Save.

Edit the sender details your customers see

Business settings

Click Business settings to edit your business name, address, and tax registration ID. Your business name and address appear in email footers, and your tax registration ID or VAT ID number displays on receipts. If you have version 7.0, depending on your template, your address may also display on your website.

Reply-To and From Email addresses

These fields affect the sender information displayed in your site's emails. Editing them is optional.

• Reply-To - This is the email address that customers reply to when they receive automatic store emails, invoices, and documents. We recommend choosing an address you check often. The email address must be valid. If it isn't, emails won't send.
• From Email - This is the address emails are sent from. If you use a Gmail or Yahoo email address, Squarespace adds no-reply@squarespace.info to this field as the default email address. Using a custom domain email address in the From Email field can sometimes cause emails to be marked as spam. We strongly recommend using the default email address to prevent delivery issues.

Site title

Depending on your email client, your site title may display as the contact name in your inbox. We recommend adding a site title that represents your brand. 

Emails and details you can’t customize

• The Order confirmed - payment in progress email.
• The Order refund initiated email.
• Invoice status change emails. 
• Emails sent by Afterpay, Clearpay, and Klarna.
• The order status link text, confirmation code, or the order status page.
• The header and footer for individual emails. You can only change these globally.
