Sharing URLs from your site

Share pages from your site by posting a page's URL.

Last updated January 9, 2025

You can share pages from your site anytime by posting a page's URL on social media or sending it to those you want to see your site.

In some cases, you can push content to social media automatically as you publish it. This guide covers how to find and share a page's URL manually. It's not possible to link directly to newsletter blocks.

Logged in vs. logged out

Always double-check the URL you're linking to or copying. When you're logged in, the URL in your address bar looks different, and it doesn't work for sharing. This secure editing URL includes your built-in domain and the slug config. For example:

https://example.squarespace.com/config/pages

If you copy and paste this link, anyone clicking it will see a Squarespace login screen, rather than your site.

Instead, use these methods to find and share URLs:

Incognito mode

To copy and paste URLs for content on your site, follow these steps:

  1. Open a private or incognito window in your browser.
  2. Without logging in, go to the page you want to share.
  3. Copy the URL in the address bar.
  4. Paste the URL wherever you're sharing your link, like on social media or in an email.

If you can't find the page you want to share without logging in, see the next section.

Full preview

To share a page from your Not linked section:

  1. While logged into your site, go to the page you want to share.
  2. Click the arrow in the top-left corner of your site to enter full preview.
  3. Copy the URL in the address bar.
  4. Paste the URL wherever you're sharing your link, like on social media or in an email.
  5. If you have a custom domain, replace the built-in domain with your custom domain before sending or posting the link.

For example:

https://built-in-domain.squarespace.com/blog

Becomes:

https://customdomain.com/blog

Homepage blog URLs

If a blog page is set as your homepage, you can link to posts without including the blog page slug. For example, if a full blog post URL is:

https://example.squarespace.com/blog/post-title

The /blog is the blog page slug. If the blog page is your homepage, you can use this URL instead:

https://example.squarespace.com/post-title

Note

The blog post URL is set by your default blog post URL format.

Homepage portfolio URLs

Accessing this feature

Portfolio pages are only available in version 7.1.

If a portfolio page is set as your homepage, you can link to sub-pages without including the portfolio page slug. For example, if a full portfolio sub-page URL is:

https://example.squarespace.com/portfolio/sub-page-title

The /portfolio is the portfolio page slug. When the portfolio page is your homepage, you can use this URL instead:

https://example.squarespace.com/sub-page-title

Share pages in an Index

Accessing this feature

Index pages are only available in version 7.0.

Certain templates support index pages, which organize content from multiple pages into a single layout, sometimes changing the presentation of the page.

When sharing a page within an index page, you can share either the URL for the index page or the page's direct URL. To learn more, visit index page SEO and social sharing in version 7.0.

Share image and file URLs

When you open an image or file on your site in a new tab, you'll see its URL in your browser's address bar. It starts with images.squarespace-cdn.com, static.squarespace.com, or static1.squarespace.com followed by a string of random characters, the filename, and the file extension.

It isn't possible to edit these URLs. To share an image or file and show your site's URL in the link instead of its assigned URL, share the URL of the page containing the image or file, not the image or file URL itself.

Tip

For gallery page images in most version 7.0 templates, you can set custom deeplink URLs that take visitors directly to that image.

Push new content to social media

You can automatically share some collection items on social networks. This is a great shortcut, cutting down the time of manually opening your social profiles and copying and pasting links.

Note

If you're having trouble pushing content to Facebook, you can share the URL manually while you troubleshoot the issue.
