Author profiles

Display and customize profile pictures and bios of blog post authors.

Last updated January 23, 2025

In addition to blog post author names, Squarespace sites can display special author profiles to help readers connect to a blog post's writer. You can use your profile to show your personality or distinguish between multiple authors on a blog.

Author profiles are available in:

How profiles display

How your author profiles display depends on your version and template.

Edit author profiles

Author profiles automatically pull information, like the profile picture and bio, from your site's contributor profiles and basic author profiles.

Contributors are people who have access to post content to your blog.

Basic authors are people who don't have access to post content to your blog. After you add their name and information to a basic author profile, you can add blog posts yourself and attribute them to the basic author.

  • To add or edit a basic author, visit Basic authors. Only site owners and contributors with Administrator permissions can manage basic authors.
  • We recommend using the same name under Display Name and Profile. Certain areas of the site use the first and last name in preference to the display name.

To change a blog post's author to have a certain author profile display, visit Managing blog post authors.

Style the profiles

You can customize author profiles with style settings. These changes are site-wide, meaning they affect all author profiles on your site.

Fonts

To style the font of the author profile:

  1. While editing your blog post, open Site styles, then click Fonts.
  2. To style the font, click Paragraphs and use the tweaks. To change the size, use the Paragraph 3 slider.
  3. Click Save to save your changes and keep editing, or click Exit and then Save to close the editor.

Colors

To style the colors of the author profile:

  1. While editing your blog post, open Site styles, then click Colors.
  2. Hover over the color theme your blog posts and click the pencil icon.
  3. Under Blog Post, use the Post Author Profile tweak.
  4. Click Save to save your changes and keep editing, or click Exit and then Save to close the editor.

Open the Site styles panel. Then:

  • Farro family - Scroll to the Blog: Item section to style the name and bio.
  • Skye family - Scroll to the Blog Post Options section to choose where the profile displays. The text doesn't have individual style settings; instead, set styles in the Site-Wide Fonts and Site-Wide Text Colors sections.

Hide the profiles

Author profiles are site-wide, meaning you can't disable them on individual posts.

To hide all author profiles:

  1. Open any blog post and click Edit.
  2. Hover over the post and click the pencil icon.
  3. Switch the Show Author Profile toggle off.
  4. Click Save to save your changes and keep editing, or click Exit and then Save to close the editor.

To hide all author profiles, open any blog post and open Site styles.

  • Farro family - Scroll down to Blog: Item and uncheck Show Author Profile.
  • Skye family - Scroll down to Blog Post Options and select Author Profile: Hide.

Author filtered pages

All sites support a filtered page of posts by author. Open an author page by clicking the author's name on a post, excerpt, or featured image.

In the Skye family, the author's profile picture appears at the top of the page.
