Using X with Squarespace

Reach a wider audience by sharing content between the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, and Squarespace.

Last updated January 9, 2024

X, formerly known as Twitter, is a social networking platform where users share news, thoughts, and other content in 280 characters or less. Connecting X is a great way to encourage users to engage with you. This guide explores different ways you can use X with Squarespace.

Note

Due to recent changes to X's API, it's no longer possible to:

  • Add new Twitter blocks or refresh the feed of existing Twitter blocks
  • Connect your X account to Squarespace
  • Push content to X

If you have a Twitter block on your site, we recommend replacing it with an Embed block. To share content to X, you can manually share its URL.

Here's what you can do with this integration:

Display the X icon

If you added Twitter to your social icons before the platform rebranded to X, your URL still functions and displays the Twitter icon. To display the X icon instead, replace your twitter.com URL with your x.com URL in the Social links panel.

Add a social icon

To display a social icon:

  1. Open the Social links panel.
  2. Add your profile link. Use an x.com URL to display the X social icon on your site, or a twitter.com URL to display the Twitter icon.
  3. Check Show Social Icon
  4. Click Save

For more detailed steps, visit Adding social links.

After adding your profile link, the social icon will automatically display in most templates, but not all of them. You can also add social icons using the social links block.

Display a feed of posts

To display a feed of recent posts:

  1. Edit a page or post, click Add Block or an insert point, then click Embed. For help, visit Adding content with blocks.
  2. Go to https://publish.twitter.com/
  3. Enter the URL of the content you’d like to embed. You can embed a post, a profile, a list, a handle, or a hashtag.
  4. Scroll down to customize the display options for your content, like the size and color theme.
  5. Click Copy Code to copy the generated code.
  6. Return to your Embed block, click Code snippet in the block editor on a computer or tap Code in the Squarespace app, then paste the embed code manually into the text field.

To learn more about embedding collections of posts to your site, visit X's documentation.

Share content to X

To share content to X, you can manually share its URL. To learn what displays when you manually share a URL, visit How content displays in social posts. When sharing products, consider using a Twitter Card.

Add Twitter Cards

Twitter Cards attach information, like images and product prices, to posts, letting users preview content within their feeds. Squarespace Commerce sites are optimized for Twitter Cards.

Note

Twitter cards won't work if you have a password enabled. For help disabling a password, visit Removing a site-wide password and Removing a page password.

For a preview, open X and paste your link into the post composer. The card preview will automatically appear. You don't need to publish the post to preview how it'll appear.

Collect X handles

You can use the form block to collect visitors' X handles.
