.it domains

Learn about the guidelines and features of .it domains.

Last updated November 20, 2024

You can register, transfer, or connect domains ending in .it to Squarespace. These domains are a great option if you have a business or professional presence in Italy.

The .it country code top-level domain (ccTLD) follows different rules than most other TLDs we offer. This guide covers certain special requirements and exceptions from Squarespace and the relevant organization that oversees .it domain registration. To learn more about these requirements and exceptions, visit TLD registry policies.

To find a domain's price, you can search for it on our domain name search page or in your domains dashboard.

TLD features

Browse the table below to learn about the unique features and rules of registering or transferring a domain ending in .it. If you connect a .it domain to your site from a third-party provider, these guidelines don’t apply.

Feature Rules
Domain locking These domains can't be locked.
Expired domains

If your domain expires, your next steps depend on who your registrar is:

Tucows: When these domains expire, you have a 10-day expiration grace period to renew with us. After that, these expired domains return to their registrar, Tucows. You then have a 30-day redemption period to contact Tucows and request a renewal.

Key-Systems: These domains don’t have an expiration grace period. If the domain expires it will no longer appear on your account dashboard. If your domain can’t be renewed, contact us to confirm if the domain can be reactivated.

Five-day registration grace period

There’s no five-day grace period to cancel these domains and no refunds.

Before registering the domain, ensure you want to keep it. Double-check the domain for typos.

Free domain offer You can use the free domain offer when registering or transferring these domains.
Nameservers

It’s not possible to edit nameservers.

Note that for most actions, you don’t need to edit a domain’s nameservers and can instead use custom DNS records.

Residency requirement

You must enter a mailing address for one of these locations to register or transfer a .it domain:

  • A member nation of the European Economic Area
  • The republic of San Marino
  • The Swiss Confederation
  • The United Kingdom
  • Vatican City
Transferring to Squarespace

Transferring these domains to Squarespace gives you one new year of registration, but won’t carry over any remaining time from your previous provider.

The renewal date for your domain changes to be the day your transfer completes.
