.eu domains

Learn about the guidelines and features of .eu domains.

Last updated March 26, 2024

You can register, transfer, or connect domains ending in .eu to Squarespace. These domains are a great option if you have a business or professional presence in the European Union.

The .eu country code top-level domain (ccTLD) follows different rules than most other TLDs we offer. This guide covers certain special requirements and exceptions from Squarespace and the relevant organization that oversees .eu domain registration. To learn more about these requirements and exceptions, visit TLD registry policies.

To find a domain's price, you can search for it on our domain name search page or in your domains dashboard.

TLD features

Browse the table below to learn about the unique features and rules of registering or transferring a domain ending in .eu. If you connect a .eu domain to your site from a third-party provider, these guidelines don’t apply.

Feature

Rules

Address requirement

When registering a .eu domain, you must select a country in the EU in the Registration panel’s drop-down menu. These domains are intended for use by EU citizens and businesses only.

Domain locking

These domains can't be locked.

Expired domains

.eu domains don’t have an expiration grace-period. If your domain expires, we’re not able to renew it for you.

Expired domains return to their registrar (Tucows) and are held for 40 days in a redemption period. You can contact Tucows to renew it during that period.

Five-day registration grace period

There’s no five-day grace period to cancel these domains and no refunds.

Before registering the domain, ensure you want to keep it. Double-check the domain for typos.

Free domain offer

You can use the free domain offer when registering or transferring a .eu domain.

Registration information

The email address you use to register a .eu domain will appear on the registry database's website, eurid.eu.

You’re required to add a name to the Organization field when registering your .eu domain. Our system won’t accept “None” as an Organization name.

Transferring to Squarespace

At the time of transfer, you’ll purchase a one-year extension of your domain registration through Squarespace. You’ll keep the time remaining on your current registration, plus an additional year.
