Connecting Pinterest to Squarespace

Pinterest is a social network where users create image boards that display content from across the internet. Connecting Pinterest is a great way to encourage visitors to share your products and images with their followers. This guide explores different ways you can use Pinterest with Squarespace.

Connect your Pinterest account

To authorize your account:

  1. In the Home menu, click Settings.
  2. Click Connected Accounts.
  3. Click Connect Account.
  4. Select Pinterest from the Social Accounts menu.
  5. Log in using your Pinterest username and password.
  6. Click Allow to authorize the connection between Pinterest and your site. We'll never post anything to Pinterest without your permission—this authorization adds an option to create a new pin when you publish new content.
  7. If you want to push content to Pinterest automatically, ensure Show Push Option is checked, and choose a push target from the Select Board drop-down menu.
  8. Click Save.
Note: It can take a moment for Pinterest to verify your site. If you had a different website URL on your Pinterest profile before this, an error message will display. To fix the issue, add the correct URL to your Pinterest profile.

Add a social icon

To display a social icon:

  1. In the Home menu, click Settings.
  2. Click Social links.
  3. Add your Pinterest profile link.
  4. Check Show Social Icon.
  5. Click Save.

For more detailed steps, visit Adding social links.

After adding your Pinterest link, the social icon will automatically display in most templates, but not all of them. You can also add social icons using the social links block.

Add a Share button

Version 7.1 doesn't support built-in Share buttons.

To help visitors share your content on Pinterest, you can add a Pinterest Share button to the following content:

  • Album pages
  • Blog posts
  • Gallery images
  • Products
Tip: Pinterest only appears as a sharing option if the item has a featured image.

Push content to Pinterest automatically

To learn how to push content to Pinterest and customize your posts, visit Sharing content on social media.

Add Save buttons

You can add Save buttons that appear when hovering over images in image blocks, gallery blocks (Slideshow, Grid, and Stacked only), store pages, individual products, and blog posts.

To learn more, visit Adding Pinterest Save buttons.

Enable Rich Pins

Rich Pins are Pinterest Pins that include extra information, like your site title and product price. To learn more, visit Using Rich Pins with Squarespace.

View Pinterest Analytics

If you have a Pinterest Business Account, connect Pinterest with your Squarespace site to see additional metrics in your Pinterest Analytics page. To learn more, visit Pinterest's documentation.

Track sales with Pinterest Tag (optional)

Pinterest Tag is Pinterest's analytics tool that tracks visitor actions on your site after seeing your Promoted Pins. You can add Pinterest Tag code to Squarespace to track users who check out on your site after seeing your product on Pinterest.

Adding the Pinterest Tag includes using code injection. This is a premium feature available in Business and Commerce plans.

To use Pinterest Tag, you’ll need:

To get started, visit Pinterest’s documentation.

Note: When adding the code to Squarespace, ensure that you copy both sets of code to track checkout correctly.

After you've completed these steps, you can use the Tag data to measure return on ad spend (ROAS) and create audiences to target with your Promoted Pins.

If you experience issues with Rich Pins or saving content to Pinterest, try reconnecting Pinterest.

From your Squarespace site:

  1. In the Home menu, click Settings, and then click Connected Accounts.
  2. Click your Pinterest account.
  3. Click Disconnect, and then click Confirm.

In your Pinterest account:

  1. Log into your Pinterest account.
  2. Navigate to Apps within your account settings.
  3. Next to Squarespace, click Revoke Access.

Next, follow the steps above to reconnect.
