Send Pay Links to get paid for services or physical products without needing to set up an online store.

With Pay Links, you can instantly accept payments anywhere, even without an online store or product catalog. Share unique links via social media, email, or QR code, directly taking customers straight to a dedicated, faster checkout page. Pay Links work well for quick, on-the-spot payments from customers who are ready to pay. 

Pay Links work well for flexible, single-item products or services, donations or tips. If you need to manage formal project work, contracts or recurring payments, consider using invoices instead.

Pricing and availability

To send Pay Links, you need to connect a payment processor to your site, like Squarespace Payments, Stripe, and PayPal. If you use Square, you can’t use Pay Links.

The number of active Pay Links you can create is based on your website plan:

• Basic: One active link
• Core: Up to five active links
• Plus and Advanced: Unlimited active links

If you downgrade your plan and have more active links than your new plan permits, older links are automatically deactivated in order of the earliest date they were created.

Create a Pay Link

You can set up a Pay Link to accept a fixed amount for a specific product or service, or you can have customers enter their own flexible amount for things like tips and donations. 

To create a Pay Link:

1. Open the Invoices panel and click Pay Links.
2. Click Create Pay Link, then Create New.
3. In the Pay Link Title field, enter a title for the link.
4. In the Amount field, enter the cost of your product or service.
5. Turn the Flexible amount toggle on or off.
6. In the Item Name field, enter a short description for the link. This name appears on the customer's cart and checkout screen.
7. Select an Item Type from the dropdown menu. This ensures the correct tax rules are applied.
8. Under Settings, you can manage the following:
   • Taxes: Turn the toggle on to charge applicable taxes at checkout.
   • Image: Click Add image to upload a product image that appears in the cart and order confirmation emails.
9. Click Close.

It’s not possible to link a specific product to a Pay Link. This means you’ll need to manually update your stock levels after each sale. If you plan to create links for physical products, set up shipping options.

Share Pay Links

After you create the Pay Link, a unique URL is generated and available to share with your customers via email, QR code or text.

To share a Pay Link:

1. Open the Invoices panel and click Pay Links.
2. Click the ... icon on a link, and click Share.
3. Click to copy the link to your device.
4. Click to email the URL to your customer.
5. Click to text the URL to your customer.
6. You can also display the QR code on your device for the customer to scan with their phone's camera.
7. Click Close.

Track Pay Links

Each Pay Link you send creates an order you can track and manage from the Orders panel. You can view orders associated with a specific link and issue refunds as you would for any standard order.

In the Invoices panel, you can view all your created links, including how many times a link has been used, the date it was created, and the total value of orders associated with it.

Edit Pay Links

You can change the details of a Pay Link only if a customer hasn't used it yet. If it’s already been used to make a purchase, you’re limited to editing only the Pay Link Title.

To edit a Pay Link:

1. Open the Invoices panel and click Pay Links.
2. Click the ... icon on a link, and click Edit.
3. Click Edit Pay Link, and make your changes.
4. Click Save & Share.

Disable Pay Links

If a customer has already paid using a Pay Link, you can't delete it because the link’s transaction history automatically saves to the Orders panel. Instead, you can disable the link to stop it from accepting new orders. This is helpful if you need to create a new link with an updated price or if an item sells out.

To disable a Pay Link:

1. Open the Invoices panel and click Pay Links.
2. Click the ... icon on a link, and click Disable.
3. Click Disable Link.
4. A confirmation message displays after the link is disabled successfully.

Delete Pay Links

You can delete a Pay Link if it hasn’t been used yet by a customer to make a purchase. Deleting a link permanently removes it from your records.

To delete a Pay Link:

1. Open the Invoices panel and click Pay Links.
2. Click the ... icon on a link, and click Delete.
3. Click Delete Link.
4. A confirmation message displays after the link is deleted successfully.
