Offering Klarna with Squarespace Payments

Sign up to offer Klarna as a payment option for your customers.

Last updated January 29, 2025

If you’re a merchant in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada that uses Squarespace Payments, you can offer Klarna as an alternative payment option for your customers. With Klarna, your customers can purchase an item with a range of payment options.

Accessing this feature

At this time, it's not possible for customers to use Klarna to purchase subscriptions, donations, Digital Products, or access to monetized content such as member sites.

Availability

Klarna is only available to merchants in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada who have a Squarespace Payments account. If you’re based outside of the UK, then you can only transact with customers in your country, and the presentment currency must be the currency of your country. For example, a US business must present in USD and can only transact with customers in the US.

If you’re based in the UK, then you can transact with customers across the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, provided the presentment currency matches the currency of the customer’s country. For example, a UK business can present in EUR to accept Klarna from a customer in Germany.

Note

We’ll be rolling out Squarespace Payments to more countries soon. Review this availability guide to check if Squarespace Payments is available in your area.

Enable or disable Klarna

You can customize which payment methods you'd like to accept with Squarespace Payments in the Finance panel.

To enable Klarna for your customers:

  1. Open the Settings panel.
  2. Under Accept Credit Cards and More, click Manage Settings.
  3. Under Manage Squarespace Payments, click the Payment methods tab.
  4. Under Installments, switch the toggle next to Klarna to enable or disable it.

Klarna payment options

The payment options available to your customers through Klarna vary by country and transaction amount. Klarna offers the following payment options:

  • Klarna installments: customers pay for their purchase in three or four interest-free payments.
  • Klarna financing: customers pay for their purchase over a longer term of up to 36 months, which may include interest.
  • Klarna pay later: customers pay for the purchase in a single payment in 30 days from the date of purchase.
  • Klarna pay now: customers pay for the purchase immediately using a linked card, bank debit, or bank transfer.

How it works

Customers using Klarna as a payment method will be directed to Klarna's website to choose their desired payment option. After completing the prompts, they will return to your website to finalize the order. Klarna will offer payment options based on the customer's billing address and the total amount of the transaction.

After the payment is approved, the entire order amount (excluding fees) will be immediately transferred to your Payments balance. Klarna will handle collecting the purchase amount from the customer, including any future installment payments if necessary.

Note

If a customer's Klarna transaction fails, it automatically cancels within 24 hours. They may receive an email from Klarna notifying them of the cancellation or that the order period has expired. Failed payments won’t appear in the Orders panel. To learn more, visit Failed customer payments.

Fees

The payment processing fee for using Klarna is 5.49% + 0.30¢ per transaction. There may be additional fees associated with using Squarespace Payments as your payment solution. Learn more about additional transaction fees.

Shipping

Dispute management

A dispute occurs when a customer disputes a transaction through their bank. Klarna covers disputes from customer fraud or inability to repay installments, provided you follow Klarna’s shipping policy. Customers can open a dispute within 180 days of the original transaction. To learn more, visit Managing disputes with Squarespace Payments.

Refunds

You can refund Klarna charges up to 180 days after the payment completes. Klarna cancels any remaining payments on a refunded charge and returns the already-paid amount to the customer. Refunds usually take 5-7 business days to complete, but may take longer depending on the customer’s financial institution and the type of purchase. Klarna supports full and partial refunds. To learn more about issuing refunds, visit Managing payments and payouts with Squarespace Payments.
