Pages, blocks, and sections in the Squarespace app

Editing your site in the Squarespace app is a similar experience to editing your site on a computer, but the app focuses on essential tasks and doesn't include everything you experience in the full version of your site. The app works best for making basic page edits, such as creating blog posts, uploading images to a page, or rearranging blocks. For more detailed changes, we recommend using Squarespace on a computer.

This guide reviews how to edit your site in the app and the different features available for each page type.

Tip: The Squarespace app supports version 7.0 and version 7.1. To learn which version you're using, visit What's my site's version and template?

Add and edit sections

Sections are only available on version 7.1.

When you add a new page in version 7.1, it starts with at least one pre-built section, unless it's a blank page. You can also add more sections to an existing page. Currently, only some sections are supported in the app.

Tap Edit or the pencil icon in the top-right corner to open the page for editing, then add or edit sections:

  • To add a new section tap + above or below an existing section, then choose a section type.
  • To move a section, click ↑ or ↓ in the toolbar.
  • To style a section, tap the pencil icon in the toolbar.

Tap Done or in the top-left corner to save your changes.

The app supports editing the content in a supported section, but you can't use the app to:

  • Add new blocks to a section
  • Move blocks in a section
  • Delete a block from a section
  • Add tags and categories to gallery sections

For areas of your site that you can't edit in the app, edit your site on a computer.

Add and edit blocks

Block options work differently depending which version of Squarespace your site is on.

  • On version 7.1, you can add blocks to collection items, like blog posts and individual events.
  • On version 7.0, you can add blocks to blank layout pages and to blog posts.

To add a new block:

  1. Tap the Pages icon.
  2. Tap the page you’d like to edit.
  3. Tap Edit or the pencil icon in the top-right corner.
  4. Tap any existing block to edit it, or tap + to add a new block.
  5. Scroll through the block settings at the bottom of the screen to add content and customize the block.
  6. When you’re done, tap Done or in the top-left corner to save your changes.

To move a block:

  1. Tap and hold the block you want to move. It'll turn gray and hover over the content.
  2. Drag the block to move it around the page.
  3. As you drag the block, use the guidelines and boxes to choose the new placement.
