Adding blocks

In this guide, you’ll learn how to add a new block using the + button or an Insert Point. Blocks create a custom layout of text, images, videos, forms, and other content.

Add blocks to a page

Tip: The images below start with a blank starter layout.
  1. In the Home Menu, click Pages. (If you don't see the Pages panel, collapse the site preview by clicking the arrow in the top-left corner of your site.)
  2. In the Pages panel, select the page you want to edit or add a new page.
  3. Hover over the area where you're adding a block, and click Edit
Note: If you’re working with a blank Regular Page, you'll see a message that reads “This page is empty. Start editing and add content blocks.” This message only appears to you until you add blocks to the page. To visitors, the page will be blank without any text.

  1. Click the + button or an Insert Point to open the block menu.
  2. In the menu, click a block to select it. You can also search at the top of the menu with words like image, text, or form.
  3. The new block will appear on the page with placeholder content. Depending on the block, an editor will open where you can customize it.

Drag and drop

You can also drag and drop a block if you know where you want it to place it on the page:

  1. Drag a block from the menu.
  2. Guidelines and grey boxes will appear to show where you can place the block.
  3. Drop the block to place it.
  4. The new block will appear on the page with placeholder content. Depending on the block, an editor will open where you can customize it.

The + button

The page editors has a + button that opens the block menu:

  1. In the top-right corner of the page editor, click + to open the block menu.

Insert Points

Insert Points are marks in page or post editors that show where you can add blocks. This method is helpful if you’d like to choose the block’s placement before adding it.

On a new Regular Page:

  1. Hover over the Text Block.
  2. You’ll see two Insert Points to the left of the existing Text Block.
  3. As you hover over an Insert Point, you'll see guidelines indicating where a new block can be placed. You can move the block later.
  4. Click an Insert Point.

If the page already has blocks:

  1. Hover to the left or right of any blocks.
  2. Click an Insert Point to add a new block.

Banners and headers

In general, it's not possible to add blocks to a banner or header. To change your site title, tag line, or site description, use the Settings panel. To change your navigation links, adjust them in your Pages panel. Most banners support other forms of overlay text.

There are a few exceptions:

Banners

  • In Brine, Aria, Basil, Burke, Cacao, Clay, Ethan, Fairfield, Feed, Foster, Greenwich, Hatch, Heights, Hunter, Hyde, Jaunt, Juke, Keene, Lincoln, Maple, Margot, Marta, Mentor, Mercer, Miller, Mojave, Moksha, Motto, Nueva, Polaris, Rally, Rover, Sofia, Sonny, Sonora, Thorne, Wav, and West, the intro area displays over banner images.

Headers

Why can’t I find the + buttons or Insert Points?

First, ensure that you’re editing an area where you can add blocks. See the list above.

Next, ensure that an editor is open. To open an editor, hover over where you want to add the block, and then click Edit.

If you’re still having trouble, it may help to clear your browser’s cache, disable any browser extensions, or update your browser version.
