Change fonts site-wide with font packs

All Squarespace sites use a font pack for cohesive font styling. Font packs use Google Fonts that are widely available, helping you maintain a consistent brand across platforms. You can change fonts throughout your site by choosing a new font pack.

To choose a font pack:

1. Open the Site styles panel.
2. Click Fonts to choose from recommended font packs immediately, or click > next to Fonts, then click All Font Packs to view all available packs.
3. Click Sans-serif for sans serif font packs, click Serif for serif font packs, or click Mixed for font packs that include both serif and sans-serif fonts.
4. Click a font pack to preview it on your site.
5. When you find a font pack you like, click Save.

Edit your font pack

To style your current font pack:

1. Open the Site styles panel.
2. Click ＞ next to Fonts.
3. Click + or - to change the base size. All text on your site scales relative to this size.
4. Click Headings, Paragraphs, Buttons, or Miscellaneous to style different categories of text on your site. Most changes to a font category apply site-wide. For example, changing the font for your Headings applies to all text formatted as headings across your site.
5. Click Assign Styles to style individual areas of text.
6. Click Save.

What do the different font categories affect?

Each font pack includes these categories:

• Headings - Applies to text blocks using heading formatting and title text in blocks and other content.
• Paragraphs - Applies to text blocks using paragraph formatting and body text in blocks and other content.
• Buttons - Applies to text on buttons.
• Miscellaneous - Applies to any text on your site not affected by other categories, mostly content metadata and certain other features like limited availability labels.

What can I style in each font category?

Each font category has the same styling options. The buttons category includes options for primary, secondary, and tertiary button types.

The styling options include:

• Font - Choose the font the category uses.
• Style - Set the text to normal, bold, italic, or other formats, depending on the font.
• Weight - Make the text thicker or thinner.
• Line height - Change the space between lines of text.
• Letter spacing - Change the space between letters.
• Text transform - Capitalize some, all, or none of the text. This tweak only applies to certain fonts.
• Size - Make the text larger or smaller. Headings, Paragraphs, and Buttons include different size settings for different formatting options.

Tip: To change the color of your text, change your site-wide or section colors. In a text block, you can also use the text toolbar.

Customize a specific font tweak

You can style specific areas of text on your site when you want them to look different than other text in the same category. This is a great way to make important text stand out or add a visual flourish to a page.

2. Click ＞ next to Fonts.
3. Click Assign Styles.

6. Click the Style dropdown menu and click Heading, Paragraph, or Miscellaneous to assign a new style category, or click Custom to customize its styling individually.
7. Click the Size dropdown menu to assign a new size option or click Custom to set the size manually.
8. Click Save.

I don’t know what font I want

If you don't have a font in mind, search and preview fonts directly with Google and Adobe. When you find a font you like, search for it in Squarespace.

What fonts does Squarespace use?

Our font collection includes 600 Google fonts and 1,000 Adobe Fonts. To keep menus short, we limit what appears at first, focusing on your recently used fonts and our most popular options. This collection doesn't include every available Google or Adobe font or formatting option.

Can I prevent Adobe fonts loading on my site?

Yes. If you don't want Adobe Fonts (formerly Typekit) to load on your site, select one of our built-in font packs. If you customize specific font tweaks, don’t select any fonts that appear after clicking Additional Fonts.

Can I upload custom fonts?

Yes, if a font you want to use isn’t available or to edit fonts beyond the available tweaks, you can upload custom fonts.

Why do my fonts look different on another device?

Some fonts may render differently across devices, such as Windows versus Mac, or on iOS versus Android. Different browsers may also render fonts differently in some cases, like in dropdown menus.

Why can’t I find a font I used previously on Squarespace?

Occasionally, Google and Adobe remove fonts from their libraries. If you're using a font that's been removed and switch to a different font, you can't switch back. Instead, we replace the font in our library with the closest match.

How does text formatting affect font styles?

While editing your site, you can use text formatting to structure your site’s text with different headings and paragraph styles.

Changing text format in the text toolbar overrides the site styles settings for that text area. For example, if you format a blog post’s excerpt text as Heading 1 in the text toolbar, then edit the font or size of blog excerpts in site styles, the text you changed will continue following Heading 1 styles.
