You can import content from a Squarespace 5 site to a new Squarespace 7 site. This lets you use all of Squarespace 7's features and templates with your existing Squarespace 5 content.
To follow the steps in this guide, you'll need a Squarespace 7 site. For help setting one up, visit Starting a Squarespace trial site.
Note: Only blogs, pages, comments, and galleries can be imported from Squarespace 5.
Note: Images and other files that you've uploaded via file storage, rather than directly to the page, must be imported manually.
Step 1 - Go to Import / Export settings
In the Home Menu, click Settings, click Advanced, and then click Import / Export.
Step 2 - Import from Squarespace 5
In the Import Site menu, select V5.
In the Account URL or Login field, enter your login, which is the first part of your Squarespace 5 URL. For example, if your full URL is http://yoursite.squarespace.com, you'll enter yoursite. Then enter your password in the Password field.
Note: For help recovering a Squarespace 5 password, visit Changing or recovering your password.
Click the Begin Import button to start the upload.
Your successful Squarespace 5 import will look like this when complete:
Note: Markdown text isn't supported for imported blogs. Content imported from a blog using Markdown language won't display.
Step 4 - Enable your imported content
The content will import as a disabled Blog Page in the Pages panel, under Not Linked. If you don't see it, refresh/reload the page.
To enable a page, hover over the page title, and click the next to the title to open Page Settings.
In Page Settings, check Enabled.
Step 5 - Move blog posts (optional)
After importing from Squarespace 5, you can move the imported blog posts between Blog Pages. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and then click the blog posts you want to move.
Note: To learn more, visit Moving content between pages.
Importing from file storage
Images and other content that you uploaded directly to a page, gallery, or journal post in Squarespace 5 will transfer to Squarespace 7. However, images that you added to file storage and then linked to won't transfer.
To manually transfer these images, download them from your Squarespace 5 site's file storage and upload them to the relevant pages on your Squarespace 7 site.
To add downloadable files to a page in Squarespace 7, upload them to links within text, navigation, and clickthrough images. To learn more, visit Uploading and managing files.
Tip: In Squarespace 5, you can only download files in file storage one at a time. To bulk-download files, you can use third-party software or browser extensions like Chrono Download Manager (Chrome) or DownloadThemAll (Firefox). Since these are third-party services, they fall outside of the scope of Squarespace support.
