Video on adding links to your site

This video shows how to link to different kinds of content with a text link.

Where you can add links

How you set up the link depends on where you're adding it. You can:

• Create text links almost anywhere you can add text
• Add links to your site's navigation
• Turn images into links
• Add button links to content areas with button blocks

What you can link to

Depending on where you create the link, you can link to:

• Content or posts filtered by a tag or category
• Email addresses
• External sites or pages
• Files
• Pages on your site
• Pay Links
• Phone numbers
• Specific points on a page (anchor links)

Link to external sites

Link to external sites, like a friend's business or a third-party service you use, with the URL option in link editors. You can also use it to link to certain content on your site, like an individual collection item, your search page, or anchor links.

To link to an external URL:

1. Open a link editor.
2. Select URL in the link editor dropdown menu.
3. Enter the complete URL in the text field.
4. Optional: Switch the Open link in new tab toggle on or off. When enabled, the link opens in a new tab. It's not possible to automatically force links to open in an entirely new browser window, as this can cause issues with a browser's pop-up blocker.
5. Press Enter or click Save, depending on where you're adding the link.

Link to your site's content

Automatically link to certain content on your site with the URL option in link editors. Instead of entering a full URL, you'll select pages or other content from a list.

To link to pages on your site, individual products, collection categories, or collection tags:

1. Open a link editor.
2. Select URL in the link editor dropdown menu.
3. Scroll through the list, or start typing the page title, product name, category, tag, or URL to filter the list.
4. Select the page, product, category, or tag from the dropdown list. For other types of content, like an individual blog post or portfolio project, add its complete URL to the field.
5. Optional: Switch the Open link in new tab toggle on or off. When enabled, the link opens in a new tab. It's not possible to automatically force links to open in an entirely new browser window, as this can cause issues with a browser's pop-up blocker.
6. Press Enter or click Save, depending on where you're adding the link.

What happens if I change the URL slug of linked content?

If you change a linked page's URL slug, the link will break. Update the link by reopening the link editor and selecting the new URL.

Link to email addresses

Link to an email address with the Email option in link editors. When visitors click an email link, it opens a blank email in their default email service and automatically populates it with your information.

To link to an email address:

1. Open a link editor.
2. Select Email in the link editor dropdown menu.
3. Under To, enter the email address you want visitors to send their message to, and click CC or BCC to add email addresses to populate those fields. It's not possible to add multiple email addresses in one field.
4. Under Subject, enter a subject to populate the email's subject line.
5. Under Body, enter body text to populate the email's message. Visitors who click the email link can edit any populated fields before sending the email, and formatting may vary depending on the email service.
6. Press Enter or click Save, depending on where you're adding the link.

Note: If your visitor doesn't have an email service installed on their device, the email link won't open. They'll need to copy your email address manually from the link.

Add other ways for visitors to email you

Aside from linking to an email address, you can:

• Add a contact form using a form block if you prefer not to show your email address for privacy reasons. This provides a layer of security, and you can respond directly to a form submission by email.
• Add your email address as a social icon. This creates an envelope icon with a "mailto" link that appears with your other social icons.
• Add a mobile information bar to give visitors quick access to your contact information on the go.

Link to phone numbers

Link to a phone number with the Phone option in link editors. When a visitor taps the link from a smartphone, it prompts them to call or text the number.

To link to a phone number:

1. Open a link editor.
2. Select Phone in the link editor dropdown menu.
3. Enter your phone number in the field, including country code and area code, if applicable. Don't include 0 at the beginning of the number, as this may prevent the link from working.
4. Select Call for the link to call the number, or select Text for the link to open a blank text message to the number.
5. Press Enter or click Save, depending on where you're adding the link.

Note: If you add a phone number as plain text without linking to it, some devices automatically detect it's a phone number and show it as a link, but this varies across devices. To ensure it always displays as a link, use the Phone option in a link editor.

Add other ways for visitors to call you

Aside from linking to your phone number, you can add a mobile information bar to the top of your site in mobile browsers.

Link to files

Upload and link to files, like .pdf menus, size charts, or audio files, with the File option in link editors. Depending on the browser and file type, uploaded files will download automatically or open in new tabs, where visitors can view them or save them to their computer. You can use any files you upload elsewhere on your site.

To link to a file:

1. Open a link editor.
2. Select File in the link editor dropdown menu.
3. Click the upload icon to select a file from your computer. To link to a file you've already uploaded to your site, you can search for it or select it from the uploaded files list.
4. Switch the Open link in new tab toggle off to have the file open in the same tab if possible, though some file types always open in a new tab regardless of this setting.
5. Press Enter or click Save, depending on where you're adding the link.

Link to a collection item

You can link to products in your online store directly by searching for them in the link editor.

To link to other collection items, like blog posts, events, lessons, projects, and videos:

1. Open the item you want to link to in a private browser.
2. Copy the item's full URL, including your domain name.
3. Log into your site and open a link editor.
4. Paste the item's full URL into the text field.
5. Optional: Switch the Open link in new tab toggle off to have the link open in the same tab.
6. Press Enter or click Save, depending on where you're adding the link.

Can I make links open in a new window?

No. You can switch the Open link in new tab toggle on to make your link open in a new browser tab if possible, but it's not possible to force links to open in an entirely new browser window because this can cause issues with a browser's pop-up blocker. Ultimately, how links open depends on the visitor and their browser.
