Marquee Events Pages (discontinued)

Marquee, Adversary, Alex, Eamon, Ginger, Mint, and Shift share the same underlying structure and functionality. This guide applies to all these templates.

Use the Events Page to add a calendar or list of events to your site. This is a great way to feature concerts, meetings, book tours, or any event you host. Clicking an event title opens the individual event at its own URL.

To set up your Events Page and events, visit Using the Events Page

Note: The Marquee family is discontinued. Although we still support these templates, fixing bugs or issues is a lower priority for us while we focus on our current templates. For a more modern template, we recommend switching to Brine.

Quick start

These templates have their own style settings for the Events Page. After adding an Events Page and choosing between calendar or list view in Page Settings, open the Style Editor and experiment with these tweaks:

  • Event Time Format - Display your event time using the 24-hour international standard time display.
  • Event Excerpts - Show or hide the event description or excerpt text.
  • Event List Date - Display or hide the date in list view.
  • Event List Time - Displays or hide the time in list view.
  • Event List Address - Display or hide the address in list view.
  • Event iCal/gCal Links - Display or hide the links on individual event pages.
  • Event Calendar Compact View
  • Events Layout: Columns, Simple
  • Events Width: Full, Narrow - Appears when Events Layout: Simple is selected.
Tip: Unlike other templates, the Marquee family doesn't have a Show Past Events option.

Choose a layout

You can display events as a list or a calendar. Switch the display at any time in Page Settings with the Default Event View drop-down. If you have multiple Events Pages, you can display some as calendars and some as lists. You might want to pick one to keep a consistent look.

Either format supports a page banner

Note: Unlike other templates, past events don't display in list view.

For calendars set to list, use the Events Layout tweak to adjust the overall style of your Events landing page. This will affect all list Events Pages on your site.

When set to Events Layout: Columns:

  • The thumbnail image, Like and Share buttons, and a View Event link display above the event details
  • The event title, date, and time display to the left of the event description.
  • Use the Event Excerpts, List Date, List Time, and List Address tweaks to hide or show these elements.
  • Check Event Time Format to display your event time using the 24-hour international standard time display. This tweaks also affects individual events.

When set to Events Layout: Simple:

  • All content stacks vertically.
  • The date and time display above the post content.
  • Thumbnail images, the View Post link, and Comment, Like, and Share buttons are hidden.
  • Use the Event Excerpts, List Date, List Time, and List Address tweaks to hide or show these elements.
  • Use the Events Width tweak to set the width of all events (full, narrow).

For calendars set to calendar:

  • If an event has a thumbnail image, the thumbnail displays. It's cropped to fit the square.
  • If an event has an excerpt, it displays on hover.
  • Arrow controls at the top help navigate by month.
  • Days without events are gray.
  • If a day has more than one event, each event's time and title display in the day's box. The height of the week expands, and thumbnails won't display.

Individual events

Clicking an event title on the landing page opens the individual event at its own URL.

  • The event's thumbnail creates a parallax-scrolling banner. The title, date, and time display over the banner.
  • Check Event Time Format to display your event time using the 24-hour international standard time display. This tweak also affects list view landing pages.
  • Display or hide Event iCal/gCal Links
  • Tags, categories, and navigation for previous and next events display below the event.

In the Marquee family:

  • The Events Page supports a parallax-scrolling page banner image or video. The page title and description with special formatting options can display as an overlay.
  • On individual events, the event's thumbnail creates the banner. The event's title, date, and time display as an overlay.

Tags and categories

You can add tags and categories in any event's settings to organize your posts.

If you link directly to a tag or category list, the text "Viewing entries in" or "Viewing entries tagged" displays at the top of the page. The category or tag is bold.

On mobile devices and narrow browsers, content stacks vertically.
