Gallery Blocks FAQ

This section offers answers to frequently asked questions we hear about Gallery Blocks.

Can I add the same gallery to multiple pages?

Yes. To add the same gallery to multiple pages, add multiple Gallery Blocks and use images from an existing Gallery Page. This avoids the hassle of manually re-uploading images.

  1. Build a Gallery Page.
  2. Add Gallery Blocks to a page or post.
  3. In the Content tab of the Block Editor, select Use Existing.
  4. Select the Gallery Page you'd like to use.

Yes. To to switch the Gallery Block design, like from Grid to Slideshow, click the Design tab. To learn more, visit Using Gallery Blocks.

Can I change the lightbox color?

There's no built-in option to change the lightbox background color, but it could probably be accomplished using custom code. We only recommend this if you feel comfortable using HTML and CSS, as we can't provide code solutions or support.

This has come up in our Answers forum.

Clickthrough URLs aren't working

If you added a clickthrough URL to an image in the Gallery Block and it isn't working, check these areas:

  • Clickthrough URLs are supported for images, not videos.
  • If you're using the Grid Gallery Block, check if the image is set to open in a lightbox. Clickthrough URLs don't work in Grid Gallery Blocks with Lightbox checked in the Design tab. To allow clickthrough URLs, uncheck Lightbox. If you want to keep lightboxes and link images, we recommend adding a text link to the image's description instead.

How do I change the number of items that display in the Carousel Gallery Block?

To change the number of images that display at a time, resize the block.

How do I change the padding in the Stack Gallery Block?

There's no built-in option to adjust this spacing. However, you can create a stacked set of images with more space between each by switching to a Grid Gallery Block from the Design tab. You can then set the Thumbnails per row to 1 and adjust the spacing as needed.

This option works best when all images in your block have the same aspect ratio, as images are resized based on width. For best results, select an Aspect Ratio and check the Crop Images option in from the Design tab.

Should I use a Gallery Page or a Gallery Block?

It depends on the design you want to achieve. There's no single answer that works for every site. Our guide on Gallery Blocks vs. Gallery Pages explains the benefits of either option and offers advice on making the right decision for your gallery.

Videos aren't playing all the way through

If videos are cutting off in your gallery, this is probably happening because Automatically Transition Between Slides is checked in the Design tab of the Block Editor. This means that the gallery is set to automatically transition through different media, so videos will cut off regardless of their length.

To fix this issue, either uncheck Automatically Transition Between Slides or upload a custom thumbnail for the video.

I don't like how my images are cropping

  3. Click to the Content tab.

  6. Click Save.

Some of my images are really small

In the Slideshow Gallery Block, the height of the block is set by the height of the widest image. If you have wide and short landscape images mixed with narrow and tall portrait images, the portrait images will appear at a reduced height.

Use images with similar aspect ratios in each Gallery Block to avoid this issue. To display both landscape and portrait images, use multiple Gallery Blocks.
