Find the best option for saving visitor data collected from forms on your site.

When you add forms to your site, you select where visitor forms or newsletter signups go when they're submitted, which we call storage. Usually, these submissions can be stored on your site, but you may also use a third-party option, like an email address or spreadsheet.

If you don't set up storage for a form, an "Add storage to this form" error message may appear.

Video on form storage

This video shows how to set up form storage options.

Where to store form and newsletter submissions

At least one storage option is required per form. If no storage option is connected, visitors won't be able to submit their information. Not all options are available for every form type.

Depending on the form, you can:

• Add subscribers and form block submitters to Squarespace's built-in Contacts panel
• Add subscribers to specific mailing lists
• Download submissions to a .csv
• Send form submissions to an email address
• Send form submissions to a spreadsheet in Google Drive
• Send form submissions to an audience or sync your Commerce store's orders, products, and customer information with Mailchimp
• Use form submissions to trigger actions in other apps through Zapier

Store newsletter subscribers and form submissions in the Contacts panel

The Contacts panel stores information about visitors to your site who've interacted with your content in specific ways.

You can save submissions and subscribers to the Contacts panel from:

• Any newsletter signup with Squarespace storage - Submitters appear under Subscribers in the Lists & Segments panel.
• Form blocks with a required email address field - Submitters and their submissions appear under Form Submitters in the Lists & Segments panel.
• Form blocks with a required email address field and Email Signup enabled - Submitters and their submissions appear under Form Submitters in the Lists & Segments panel. If the submitter checks the email signup box, they also appear under Subscribers.

Where to find submissions in the Contacts panel

To find and manage submissions stored in the Contacts panel:

1. Open the Lists & Segments panel.
2. For subscribers, click Subscribers, then click a subscriber. For form submissions, click Form Submitters, click a submitter, then click Form Details.
3. Depending on the contact type, you can review more details, create filtered segments, and add them to mailing lists.

Collect subscribers for mailing lists with newsletter signups

You can connect newsletter signup forms directly to mailing lists you create, then use those mailing lists to send email campaigns.

You can save submissions to Squarespace mailing lists from:

• Newsletter blocks
• Newsletter signup at checkout
• Promotional pop-ups

Connect a form to a mailing list on Squarespace

You can connect your forms to a mailing list even if you haven't subscribed to Squarespace Email Campaigns yet, but you won't be able to send to mailing lists without Email Campaigns.

To connect a form to a Squarespace mailing list:

1. If you haven't already, create a mailing list.
2. Open a supported form.
3. In the form's storage options, click Squarespace or Squarespace Email Campaigns.
4. Select a list from the Mailing List menu. If you don't connect a mailing list, subscribers are automatically added to the general Subscribers list in your Lists & Segments panel.

Where to find submissions added to mailing lists

To find and manage submissions added to mailing lists:

1. Open the Lists & Segments panel.
2. Click the mailing list you want to check.

Send submissions to an email address

To receive an email when a visitor submits a form, use the Email storage option. The default email address is the account email address of the site owner or contributor who added the form.

Email address storage is available for form blocks.

Connect a form block to an email address

When a site owner or contributor adds a form block, their email address is connected to the form by default. Each form can only have one email address connected. If you change your email address or purchase a Google Workspace subscription, your form storage won't update automatically.

To send form block submissions to a different email address:

1. Open the Pages panel.
2. Click the page with the form block, then click Edit.
3. Click the block, then click the pencil icon on the block.
4. Click the email address under Email Notifications, then click X next to the email address.
5. Enter a different email address.

Note: Unless the site owner is Circle partner, form submission emails are disabled for trial sites to prevent abuse. To receive submissions by email, upgrade to paid service. On a trial, use Google Drive or Mailchimp storage instead.

Where to find emailed form submissions

View and manage your form submission emails in your email address's inbox. Depending on your email provider, your form submission emails may be grouped together in your inbox, as they all come from the same squarespace.info address. For example, Gmail inboxes often organize multiple form submissions into a single thread.

Each email includes the following information and can't be customized:

• Subject Line - Form Submission - [Form name] - [Subject field text]
• From - form-submission@squarespace.info (previously no-reply@squarespace.info)
• Body - All form fields on separate lines and "Sent via [Your Site Title])”

Can I reply directly to form submissions in my email?

Yes. Generally, if your form includes an email address field, you can reply to the email to respond to the person who submitted the form.

If you're having trouble replying to the email, your email provider might not support replying directly. Instead, copy the email address and create a new email.

Why does the form submission email have a "create invoice" link?

To help you turn leads into paying customers, the form submission email has a Create invoice link that creates an invoice with the form submitter's details filled in. The Create invoice link appears if your website has a connected payment processor, and if the form's name and email address fields are both required.

Store submissions on a spreadsheet in Google Drive

To send forms submissions to a spreadsheet, connect to Google Drive. This is useful for managing large amounts of form submissions that you can share or export to another service.

Google Drive storage is available for:

• Form blocks
• Newsletter blocks
• Promotional pop-ups

Connect a form to Google Drive

To connect a form to Google Drive:

1. Open a supported form.
2. In the form's storage options, click Connect next to Google Drive.
3. Log into your Google account.
4. Click Allow in the message to give Squarespace permission to connect to Google Drive.
5. Enter a Spreadsheet Name. This creates a new spreadsheet for your form submissions. Each field in your form connects to a single column in the spreadsheet, even if it displays as multiple text boxes in the form. For example, fields for first and last name display as separate text boxes but count as one field and appear in one cell in Google Sheets. To use a single text box for a name on your form, or to have first name and last name appear as separate fields, use text fields instead.
6. Optional: In Google, you can enable notifications for new form submissions to your spreadsheet.

Where to find Google Drive submissions

View the spreadsheet with your form submissions in Google Drive. It's not possible to rename the spreadsheet, as this disconnects it from your Squarespace site.

Can I connect to an existing spreadsheet in my Google Drive?

No. It's not possible to connect to an existing spreadsheet, a spreadsheet in a shared drive, or a specific tab in a spreadsheet.

If you disconnect Google Drive and reconnect it in the same form, it reconnects to the correct spreadsheet.

How many different forms can I connect to my Google Drive?

You can connect up to 50 forms to a single Google Drive account. If you connect an additional form, Google Drive disconnects the oldest form connection to keep the total at 50. To avoid this, ensure you keep track of the number of forms connected to your Google Drive account.

Why is the date field incorrect in Google Drive?

The date form field matches your site's location, which might conflict with your Google Sheets settings. To avoid issues, ensure your connected spreadsheet uses the same location as your site.

Store submissions in Mailchimp

The Mailchimp integration and extension are available in the Core, Plus, and Advanced plans, and some Legacy plans. If you use Mailchimp as a storage option on a trial site, then upgrade to a Basic plan, the Mailchimp connection won't work. Upgrade to a supported plan to use Mailchimp with Squarespace.

To build an audience for campaigns, you can connect a form to a new Mailchimp audience. Ensure your Mailchimp account permissions include managing audiences to set up this connection.

Mailchimp storage is available for:

• Form blocks
• Newsletter blocks
• Newsletter signup at checkout
• Promotional pop-ups

Connect a form to Mailchimp

To connect a form to a Mailchimp account:

1. Open a supported form. Per Mailchimp's policy, forms exceeding 30 fields can't connect to Mailchimp.
2. In the form's storage options, click Connect next to Mailchimp.
3. Log into a Mailchimp account.
4. Select a Mailchimp audience from the dropdown menu. We recommend connecting to a new, empty Mailchimp audience. To connect multiple form or newsletter blocks to the same Mailchimp audience, keep the form fields and settings identical between the blocks. Any differences can cause form submissions to be dropped/rejected by Mailchimp.

Tip: You can sync your Squarespace products, orders, and customer information to your Mailchimp account by connecting the Mailchimp extension. We can help with connecting or disconnecting your extensions, but we can’t troubleshoot other issues. For more help, contact the extensions provider directly or explore the Squarespace Forum.

Where to find submissions in Mailchimp

View and manage your newsletter subscribers in your Mailchimp audiences. If there's a discrepancy between subscribers and form submissions, it probably means some people didn't confirm their subscription via email.

Can I connect multiple forms to the same Mailchimp audience?

We strongly recommend using a different audience for each form. If you connect more than one form to the same audience, or connect a new form to an existing audience you previously created, your forms could drop submission data or disconnect from storage.

If you choose to connect multiple forms to one audience, each form needs to be absolutely identical. Any discrepancies between type, name, or arrangement of fields between forms will create errors.

To reset your Mailchimp connections if you experience issues:

1. Open any forms connected to the audience, click Mailchimp, then click Disconnect.
2. Reset the Mailchimp connection for each form.
3. Check each form to confirm all fields are identical.
4. Reconnect the storage option for each form.

Zapier

The Zapier integration and extension are available in the Core, Plus, and Advanced plans, and some Legacy plans.

To send form submissions to other apps, connect your form to Zapier, an online automation tool. Using actions called Zaps, Zapier can integrate your form with other services including ConvertKit, Salesforce, Slack, and Trello.

The Zapier integration is available for:

• Form blocks
• Newsletter blocks

Send test forms after connecting storage

We recommend sending a few test submissions to check how your submissions appear in your connected storage options.

If you’re testing a newsletter at checkout, complete a test order and check the option to subscribe to your newsletter.
