Squarespace Payments eligibility

To be eligible for Squarespace Payments:

• Review this supported locations guide to check if Squarespace Payments is available in your area.
• Have a Squarespace trial site or a paid Squarespace site.
• Have a site that is not currently attached to an existing Squarespace Payments account.
• Have site owner or administrator permissions.
• Be 18 years of age or older.

Tip: Review the bank connection and verification process before signing up to plan for payout holding times.

Sign up for Squarespace Payments

If you currently use a third-party processor, visit Switch to Squarespace Payments. Otherwise, you can sign up for Squarespace Payments in the Finance panel. 

To sign up for Squarespace Payments:

1. Open the Finance panel.
2. Click Get started.
3. Follow the prompts and enter all required information. The contributor who signs up becomes the Payments Manager by default. You can transfer this role to someone else after setup.
4. Click Agree & submit.
5. After you submit your information, you'll be automatically returned to the Payments panel. Here, you'll review the connection status of your Squarespace Payments account. You'll need to complete two-factor authentication to perform sensitive actions, like transferring funds, viewing your Balance digital card numbers, or changing your payout bank account.

What will I need for the verification process?

The type of information you need to provide for verification depends on if you sign up as an individual or company, and where your business is located. During the verification process you'll be asked to provide some basic information about your business, product, and your personal relationship to your business. If you are unsure about which business type to select during the verification process, we recommend consulting with a tax advisor.

Can I restart the sign-up process?

If you are in the middle of the sign-up process and need to restart to correct a mistake, you can restart by clicking Restart Setup. This only applies if you haven't already completed the process. If you've already completed the sign-up process and need to correct something, contact us for help.

When you start the Squarespace Payments setup process you become the Payments Manager by default. Only the Payments Manager can resume sign-up. To resume, go to the Payments panel and click Continue Setup.

How will I receive payouts from my Squarespace Payments account?

After your account is verified and you’ve made your first sale, connect a bank account to receive payouts or transfer funds from your Balance account.

What is Squarespace Balance?

Squarespace Balance is a spending account that links instantly with your Squarespace Payments account. If you’re new to Squarespace Payments in the United States, you’ll set up a Squarespace Balance account as part of your sign-up process.

What payment methods can I accept with Squarespace Payments?

Squarespace Payments sets up your website to accept credit and debit card payments. You can customize which additional payment methods you'd like to accept with Squarespace Payments in the Payments Settings panel. Review what payment methods and digital wallets are available for Squarespace Payments sellers.

What can I use Squarespace Payments for?

You can use Squarespace Payments to accept payments for orders placed in your online store, and through pricing plan blocks. Squarespace Payments isn’t currently available for Acuity Scheduling. 

You can use Squarespace Payments for:

• One-time purchases
• Subscriptions
• Course pages
• Videos pages
• Member sites
• Donations

What can I sell using Squarespace Payments?

Payment processors and card networks restrict what you can sell with Squarespace Payments. Review the Payment Processor’s Prohibited and Restricted Businesses List to learn more about these restrictions. Visit the Squarespace Payments Terms to read the full policy.

Are there fees for using Squarespace Payments?

Review the Squarespace Payments fees and payment processing rates.

Where can I find my 1099-K? (US Only)

If you’re in the US, and use Squarespace Payments, you’ll get a 1099-K if you meet the federal filing threshold of $20,000 in gross payments and more than 200 transactions. You may also get a 1099-K if your state’s filing requirements are less than that.

Can I use both Squarespace Payments and Stripe?

If you currently use Stripe, connecting Squarespace Payments will replace Stripe as your payment processing solution for your site. Learn more about Switching to Squarespace Payments.

I switched from Stripe to Squarespace Payments, what happens to my saved payment methods and subscription products?

If you sell subscription products, your customer’s saved payment methods will continue to process with Stripe until your Stripe data import is complete. This can take up to 10 days to complete. You’ll receive an email confirmation when your data is done importing. Learn more about switching from Stripe to Squarespace Payments.

What happens to my Stripe account?

When you switch to Squarespace Payments, your Stripe account is detached from your Squarespace account, and your payment solution is replaced with Squarespace Payments. You can manage previous payments made using Stripe on your Stripe account. Learn more about switching from Stripe to Squarespace Payments.

What happens to my PayPal account?

When you sign up to use Squarespace Payments as your payment solution, you can still accept PayPal as a form of payment. Learn more about accepting PayPal as a payment method. 

I don't have a social security number (SSN)? Can I still sign up for Squarespace payments?

If you’re in the US, you need an SSN to sign up for Squarespace Payments as an individual or sole proprietor.  For other business entities, a taxpayer identification number (TIN) is required.

I don't have a traditional street address. Can I use a land indicator or a PO Box? 

No. You need a physical address to sign up for Squarespace Payments. You can’t use a land description of PO box.

Can I have multiple Squarespace Payments accounts?

Yes. If you need to use Squarespace Payments on multiple Squarespace websites, create a separate Payments account for each website

Can I use the same EIN/SSN/TIN for multiple Squarespace sites?

Yes. When signing up for multiple Squarespace Payments accounts, you can use the same Tax ID number (EIN, SSN, TIN) for multiple Squarespace sites.

Why do I get an error when I enter my business website domain?

If your site is private or password-protected, you'll get an error message saying “Your provided website appears to be incomplete or under construction. Please provide a new one.” To continue with Squarespace Payments setup, remove the site password and change your Site Availability to Public. If you don’t want to keep your site public, you can make it private again after setting up Squarespace Payments. 

Can I connect my Squarespace Payments account to multiple websites?

No. Each Squarespace Payments account can only be connected to one website. If you need to use Squarespace Payments on multiple Squarespace websites, you'll need to create a separate Payments account for each website.

Can I use Squarespace payments outside the US

Squarespace Payments is available in the following countries. As a seller you need to be based in the country where you signed up for Squarespace Payments. However, you can sell internationally and set non-USD currencies for your store.

Are Square and Squarespace Payments the same company?

No. Square and Squarespace Payments are different companies. Squarespace Payments is our native payment solution that centralizes your finances directly in your site dashboard. 

Square is a payment processor that can accept payments online or in person on your mobile devices. You can use Square to sell in person through the Squarespace App, or accept payments on Acuity scheduling. To contact Square, visit their help site.
