Linking to a phone number

Encourage visitors to call you by adding a link to a phone number. When someone taps this link from a smartphone, it will prompt them to call the number.

Some devices automatically turn phone numbers into links

If you add a phone number as plain text without linking to it, its formatting will vary across different mobile devices. Some devices automatically detect it's a phone number and show it as a link. To ensure it always displays as a link, follow the rest of this guide.

Open the link editor

  1. In the Text Block editor, enter the text you want to link. For example, Call Us or the full phone number. For help adding a Text Block, visit Using Text Blocks.
  2. Highlight the text.
  3. Click the Link icon in the text toolbar to open the link editor.

Add the link

After the link editor is open: 

  1. Click the External tab.
  2. Enter tel: followed by a phone number, without any spaces. If the number includes a country code, add tel:+ followed by the phone number.
  3. Click Add Link.

Some link editors have a separate Phone tab for setting up this type of link. You can enter a phone number and it will automatically become a phone link, without you manually entering the tel: text. To learn more, visit Adding links to your site.
